Anybody hear this and I just miss it?

If you get ESPN the magazine, on page 128 in the NFL section there is an article titled "Law of Average" of course, about the Saints. It talks about how our average record earns us middling draft picks, bad defense, shopping Howard for cap room, yatta yatta yatta. The most interesting part was at the end. Says how the last 4 games saved Haslett's job and after the season he and Loomis said he was offered a contract extension to which Benson replied "First i've heard of it." I thought that was interesting. Could that be why we haven't heard anything of Haz' extension? OR is this old news and I just missed it?

March 24-
Haslett said owner Tom Benson offered him the extension during a Jan. 7 meeting in West Palm Beach, Fla. Benson, though, said Wednesday he was not aware of ongoing negotiations and called any talk of a pending extension \"premature.\"

\"That\'s the first I\'ve heard of it,\" Benson said. \"We need to concentrate on the upcoming season and winning football games. We\'ve got a chance to be a pretty good team. That\'s what we need to focus on.\"

Wow, guess I did miss that. Yikes. Finally Benson does something right. It would have been stupid to give Haz an extension, when you were crying you couldn\'t fire him cause of the buyout on his salary.

doling out (or not doling out) bucks and developing a winning organizations are two different talents.

i\'m just wondering who calls the shots if the old buzzard croaks? his grand daughter at the helm but what about ownership? his wife is pretty new but at least from nawlins. he didn\'t reply to blanco cuz he was at a religous retreat. maybe he has given his legacy a thought or two before checking out.

I can dig that Kel, but can it not be said that in the past Benson has had a \"talent\" for spending money unwisely and being cheap when he could help the team by opening the wallet? No extension for Haz at least means somewhat of a departure from that.
