RE: who better fits the team at LB

Biography:
Ronald McKinnon UFA Cardinals – After taking over the starting job inside for starter Eric Hill in 1998, McKinnon has been a mainstay and one of their best players. McKinnon is known as a good run stopper but his skills are clearly declining and he’s just average in pass coverage. He still should get some interest in free agency but he likely only got a few years left as a starter.

Rob Morris UFA Colts – Despite being a starter inside for the Colts the past four seasons, team observers still say he’s a liability and is often caught out of position. Morris is basically a straight-ahead inside linebacker who will hit what he sees but is way too inconsistent. He probably is best used in a 3-4 scheme where he plays next to an impact linebacker.

In his career, Peter Boulware has consistantly been able to get after the quarterback. There are few players in the league that have as much explosivness coming off of the edge. While he is a pass rushing demon, Boulware has improved his pass defense. Still, Boulware needs to improve his run defense to be considered the best strongside linebacker in the game.
Peter Boulware attended Florida State University. A hard-hitting outside linebacker, Boulware racked up 52 sacks in his first five years in the league.

Peter Boulware Facts: Peter Boulware entered the NFL Draft after his Junior Year at FSU... Peter was Baltimore's first-round selection in the 1997 NFL Draft forth pick overall... Won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 1997... In his Junior Year Peter Boulware was a first-team All-American selection and was named National Defensive Player of the Year by Football News as a junior and was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year and All-ACC... With 19 QB sacks, Peter shattered the Seminole's all-time mark of 12 held by Ron Simmons in 1977... Peter first Pro Bowl in 1998 was as a "Need" Player, after being voted a first alternate... Boulware in the Pro Bowl, 1998, 1999, 2002 & 2003(Did not play knee injury)... Ed Block Courage Award Winner... Brother Michael will be drafted in 2004...

Boulware is my first choice. He's got skills that indicate that he isn't just a Ruff waiting to happen to us again.

I like the new poll option. That is pretty fun.

boulware.......great pass rusher, has problems against the run. will fit right in!

I would take Hardy because he is more well-rounded. Boulware is extremely tempting but we have problems against the run and that isn't exactly his strong suit. Although a lot of people think Morris is slow, I think he also would be a better fit than Boulware... but that's just my opinion.

I voted McKinnon mostly because I don't really know if I want any of these guys. They all come with baggage. I think McKinnon is the youngest and might benefit the most from a change in scenery and regain some or all of his past form.

Can Hardy play SLB? We have 4 MLB's and 8 zillion WLB's, but only 1 SLB (I'm not counting Hodge).
Has Boulware ever played OLB in a 4-3? I think he's a 3-4 pash rush guy. We've got that covered already. I want a run stuffer.

Danno's got a good point. Boulware has been playing in a 3-4 scheme. I think he is a good player, but can he convert to a 4-3? I think Hardy would be a good addition. Does anyone know if the Saints are even looking at these guys?
