Cameron Meridith THURS It's On

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I believe Meredith is one of the worst ranked PFF performers in the preseason. He has yet to catch a single pass but has 2 drops credited to him. He might have been decent before the injury, but to be ...

I believe Meredith is one of the worst ranked PFF performers in the preseason. He has yet to catch a single pass but has 2 drops credited to him. He might have been decent before the injury, but to be honest, that doesn't matter. Currently, based purely on performance Meredith should be getting cut.

Well he hasn't made a catch this preseason...I'm sure we aren't ra ing about that

I think this is accurate. Clearly we won't due to the investment, but yeah he hasn't looked great by any means

He's coming back from a major injury to two ligaments. He's rusty. He's in a new system. He's been limited in practice.

I, for one, am willing to give time until he's been in the system receiving repeated quality snaps before I pass judgement on him.

Based on that theory, you could also add in AJ Klein & Ted Ginn Jr ... but neither of which are probably getting the tap (cut). That is why I don't read PFF as the gospel. Meredith is coming back from an ACL tear. He wasn't even supposed to be back by now.

Question for the nayayers ...

What are/were your realistic expectations on a player coming off a major knee tear after 11 months of rehab in a new/complex style of offense that requires precision route running? He's caught over 70% of his passes thrown to him over his young career with lousy QB play in Chicago.

The NFL season is brutal. I'd much have a guy with ability & high ceiling to take his time coming back. The NFL is not a sprint but a marathon.

I have 0 confidence in Merideth and based on what Payton has said about the play at WR as a whole I don’t think he makes the cut. Outside of Thomas nobody is really lighting it up. I have a feeling Payton is running out of patience and isn’t going to be comfortable waisting a spot on a player coming off injury who hasn’t shown squat in preseason. Makes IR with return at best.

Meredith is on a 2 year deal. Putting him on IR would be a dumb move (unless he's truly a set back/which doesn't appear so). Sitting him on the bench for yet another season is not going to help him do that. But he needs to stay off IR so he can practice. That is important for a player coming off a ACL tear.

Let the man get back to game speed before throwing out pitch forks & stones.

Re: Cameron Meridith THURS It's On

Honestly, Meredith is really a nonfactor on this offense with the immergence of Smith & with Carr continuing to improve on an offense that already has both MT & Kamara.

Great for depth, but he shouldn't even be considered a #2 or #3 WR option. Can we stash him on PUP & bring him back later this season so he can continue to build on "the best shape of his life" in the meantime?

His play doesn't show he's 100% physically and/or mentally.

This coming from the guy that lost $20 to me because of being 100% positive that Drew Brees wasn't going to be on the Saints roster this season.

Understood. Been around too many folks who think that winning preseason games are important. My view of preseason games.

"How was the game?"
"Anyone hurt?"
"Nope."
"The game was great!"
