Saints looking at Troy Brown

AP that the New Orleans Saints have expressed interest in free agency WR Troy Brown (Patriots) according to Mike Reiss of the Boston Herald. Apparently the ACL injury suffered by rookie WR Chase Lyman has opened a roster spot for a veteran wideout in the Big Easy.

I wonder what he's seeking for a contract?

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

I would hope somewhere between 1 million or 2 million... which is pretty fair IMO and affordable. If we did sign him, maybe Lyman's injury would be a blessing in disguise. Brown does have gas left in his tank.

i say sign him....he has sure hands and thats something we are missing right now.....besides that he can contribute in other areas like KR/PR & CB and we can definetly use that kind of help....

1 to 2 mil is not affordable for a team with only 1 mil in cap space. We need to restructure or trade Howard (or someone).

I like Brown. He'd be an excellent 3rd and capable 2nd WR!

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

But remember we were seriously considering signing Chad Brown JKool, so I think we had something planned for the extra cap space.

Good point, papz.

I wonder where it'll come from? What do you think?

Great another short receiver... Is Dante Hall up for free agency soon?

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

No clue lol... I would think it would have to come from Gandy's money somehow. Can't think of another way since Howard isn't going anywhere.

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

Gandy is a good call papz. I think we should get him to restructure. I doubt we'd get much more than 1 or 2 mil from his restructure. That doesn't get us much room for insurance if someone gets hurt.

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

But if Stinchcomb continues to improve the way he is improving... and he can supplant Gandy during training camp (from what reports have been saying which is a real possibility), we might not even need to have him on our roster anymore. If he doesn't want to take an huge paycut... he's getting 5 million this year I think... which I wouldn't see why he wouldn't take one , there is all of our extra cap room right there.

Troy Brown, although short and old, possesses things that our WRs need: a classy leader with sure hands. He might be looking for more than the Saints are willing to pay tho.

JKool 05-17-2005 01:51 PM

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

He's getting just over 5 mil, as I recall.

I'm not sure I buy the stuff on Stinch just yet. Perhaps that stuff will shake out in training camp - I heard there are a number of teams who think Brown could play LT too. Maybe it is just a four way competition for both the RT and LT jobs among Stinchcomb, Gandy, Brown, and Mayberry?

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

i said we should look at T Brown.....and now they are.............i hope they find a way to sign him...we need sure hands for those 3rd downs..

JKool 05-17-2005 02:56 PM

RE: Saints looking at Troy Brown

Tigger, please suggest we look at Simon from the Eagles or some other stud DT or LB. Every little bit helps!

I think T. Brown could be a good signing. Of course, last year, I was pretty excited about that had been in Detroit before he got hurt...

I'm all for Brown, and I think that if there's anything Loomis does well (and there doesn't seem to be a lot), he manages the cap extraordinarily. I'm not worried about signing players - he'll get it done. There has been absolutely ZERO talk about being in cap trouble from the team - and there hasn't even been a suggestion that everyone won't be in camp when training camp starts. They'll get it done.

i didnt read all the post so im not sure what he is seeking. i wouldnt think it would be much. but i love the idea. he has played for a winni9ng team and he will doi anything. i say bring the guy on board. should help some of our younger wide outs

JKool 05-17-2005 05:20 PM

I agree kb. I don't think we should break the bank for him, but how much can he really want?

FireVenturi 05-17-2005 05:31 PM

i think brown would be great, though don't ex[pect him to see time at cb. we dont have a bellichick

spkb25 05-17-2005 05:31 PM

exactly jkool with his age and everything he cant be seeking that much. i think it would help with the loss of pathon also.
