On Tuesday, McKenzie said his contract "is not an issue" and said he didn't want to distract from the momentum gained in the Saints' season-ending, four-game winning streak last season.

McKenzie participated in the Saints' offseason conditioning program on a part-time basis. He admitted that he preferred to work out with a personal trainer in his hometown of Miami, as he did throughout his six-year career with the Packers.

"Coach Haslett really stressed to me the importance of being here . . . and I definitely wanted to be here and let them know that I'm in it for the long haul," said McKenzie, who led the Saints with five interceptions in 11 games. "I love New Orleans. You can't beat Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. It's not like the Frozen Tundra. I love being here."
