Defense under Payton
 

Have historically sucked with the exception of about 3 years. We have been through how many DC’s 6?
The one constant has been Payton. I’m more convinced than ever he isn’t letting them do their job.
Stick to offense Payton, let your coaches do their work for 5-6 games without stepping in and see what happens.

Have to agree, Payton gets way too involved in the D and it's cost us year after year. Wasting the career of a HOF QB.

D was great until Payton got a boner over Seattle's D in 2013, then cut Malcolm Jenkins for Jairus Byrd, spent a 2nd round pick on Stanley Jean Baptiste because he was the same height as Richard Sharman and let Akiem Hicks go.

Let me see - Malcolm Jenkins - All pro and just won a super bowl
Akiem Hicks - now one of the best interior lineman in the league and continuously beats double teams.
SJB - No longer in the league I believe.

As you said, the one continuation is Payton, couple that with Payton playing a MLB at outside, cut our 2nd best coverage LB (Stupar) and won't even let our best LB play (Robertson)

And...constantly trading up and mortgaging our future for project players.

I get the feeling this last draft - Payton just pushed Jeff Ireland to side and said "this is my draft now."

The guy has no clue about Defense.
