Kyle Turley trade???
With the signing of Wayne Gandy and Jim Haslett's comment as reported on KFFL that "Wayne will be the left tackle" all but shows the writing on the wall the Turley will be dealt. If they had any intention of not aggressively shopping him they would state they are looking to position him back at RT as he originally started with the Saints.
At first I thought the team was showing it's hand too early with the announcing of Gandy, but in hindsight they did need to lock him up before someone else did. I originally felt it would reduce Turley's marketability with teams knowing he is expendible, and although it does do that somewhat, I don't think it will to the degree I originally was concerned with. With Walter Jones and Orlando Pace being designated as Franchise players, Petigout resigning with the Giants and Flozell Adams resigning with Dallas, the selection of starting tackles is pretty slim. Teams that have need at this position will be all that more interested in the chance of obtaining a bonafide starting LT for a reasonable risk. One of the other posters mentioned dumping Turley for a mid round first and then shuffling that pick to Oakland for Charles Woodson. A super idea. The breathing space provided by shedding Turley's salary will offset what we would need to pay Woodson, and that would give us instant depth and make our secondary a strength it has never been.
Imagine a secondary with Charles Woodson and Dale Carter at the corners. Backed up by a quality veteran like Ashley Ambrose and Ken Irvin, Fakhir Brown and a young project for depth. Mel Mitchell learning on field from a veteran like Rodney Harrison with Jay Bellamy as an insurance policy in case Mitchell stumbles. Keyou Craver can learn behind them as well. That sounds like a team strength suddenly.
