Proper perspective

One of our members has a signature referring to pessimists as being worse than losers. I have a few statements that I think should put that claim in it's proper perspective.

1). First of all, we are all Saints fans, correct? I know there will be
adverse reactions to this, but, doesn't the fact that we are all Saints
fans make us all losers? I mean, seriously. One playoff win in 38
years. When you make a statement like that it's almost like the pot
calling the kettle black.

2). Coming to a Saint message board and expecting to find optimistic
people is almost like going to a cathouse looking for a virgin. Give
me a break.

3). And finally, you may call out the pessimist by comparing them to
losers, but have you ever considered what someone being optimistic
when it comes to the Saints despite their long history of failure looks
like. I am not going to make any comparisons, I just thought you
may need a little perspective.

Danno 05-24-2005 07:28 AM

Please don't confuse criticism with pessimism. There are plenty of guys here (you included LB) that are quite knowledgeable about the game and correctly point out valid problems with this team. But there are some posts that just keep hammering the "ah nevermind, we suck, we'll never do anything right" attitude.

Mention a positive about our Saints, and there right there with a negative to crap on it.
Mention a negative about another team, and there right there with a positive to crap on it.

My favorites are the folks who say this team has no talent. But then say Haslett sucks because we've underachieved for so many years.

There was a poster here a while back, that whenever you mentioned ANY Saints player (not just Brooks) in a positive light, he'd immediately go look up the "Negatives" from a scouting report and completely ignore the "Positives" sections. I think he did it because he knew it got my blood pressure skyrocketing. That is the pessimist attitude I'm referring to.

Take Josh Bullocks. His scouting report said he was a good versus the run, and excellent versus the pass.
It took about 3 posts for someone to say "Great, we draft a safety who can't tackle, another Tebuckey Jones"

To me, thats a pessimist. But I'll change my sig if its offensive to you, or anyone else for that matter.

Saint_LB 05-24-2005 08:00 AM

Danno, don't change your sig just for me. Your response cleared some things up for me....mainly that you don't include me in that group of people who are worse than losers!! :D

There is no possible way that anyone could want the Saints to win more than me. I think my problem is that I have been waiting way too long. My skeptical nature regarding the Saints is really just a defensive mechanism. If I don't let myself go around thinking that all is perfect in the world of black and gold, then I don't feel so let down when good things don't happen. I believe it is a learned behavior when talking about the Saints.

WhoDat 05-24-2005 09:12 AM

This thread sucks... losers! LOL :)

saintswhodi 05-24-2005 09:27 AM

So basically, blind ass optimism and overwhelming naivete ignoring anything remotely not in that realm is the order of the day? You can have it. Don't they usually call a woman who stays in an abusive relationship a dumb ass, especially if she continues to paint her abusive husband as a model citizen? Every one of us has earned the right to be as critical of this team as we like, so all that loser, pessimist WTF ever talk can take a long walk off a short pier. I hope it's a sunny day for that walk though. How's that for optimism?

mayoj 05-24-2005 09:35 AM

When are the Saints going to win? They will go to and win the superbowl the first year they are in their new stadium in their new city. Aaron brooks will throw for 350yds 3TDs and the defense will have 4 takeaways and 1 defensive TD.

How is that for pessimism.

jk of course....maybe

Euphoria 05-24-2005 09:36 AM

I'm totally convinced that you either...
A) Didn't read anything I wrote.
B) Incapable of comprehending even if you did read it.

There's a fine line between ignorance and stupidity. Ignorance simply means you were never informed. Stupidity means your informed but still don't get it.

papz 05-24-2005 10:14 AM

Whoa! That's a strong statement.

saintswhodi 05-24-2005 10:28 AM

Dude, name calling in "code" isn't gonna excuse your stance Pollyanna. I am informed enough to know anytime ANYONE questions ANYTHING that is said about the Saints, you will scuttle in and deride them or make a comment about how we all suck cause we aren't the Sunshine Band. Or if you predict .500, you are a loser, oh sorry, pessimist. Did I read this wrong?

Isn't that how you feel? What's the saying for someone who doesn't understand a response to what they write? Is there a level below ignorance and stupidity? Who is it that does this is maybe a better question? Making vague generalizations does nothing to further your point. Who are these mysterious always pessimistic individuals who are out to ruin the fourm and squash all optimism wherever it may lie? Got some names? I can guarantee anyone you mention I can find posts where they have said positive things about players or the team in general.

Didn't you also say this?

Who was it that dared piss off the great Danno? Got a name? Who dared rain on the great smoke up your ass parade of 2005? Are they still around? Are you gonna say this person never posted one positive thing about this team or any of its players? No, cause NOONE here is like that. So again, explain to me the level below stupidity and ignorance where you don't understand a response to what you write. I may be too stupid and ignorant to have that low of an understanding.

Glad you think I'm great. Wanna start a fan club?

Would it matter? You wouldn't change your mind anyway.

They seldom post anymore. But several people (including YOU) remind me of him.

When they left for another team he frequently did.

Very few people are both stupid and ignorant . They're usually one or the other.

I was looking for the level below either. But seriously, what is the point of having a sig like that, blasting people for saying something negative, jumping on the badnwagon of anyone who runs in here claiming to be the eternal optimist, and then saying
Quote:

Would it matter? You wouldn't change your mind anyway
and

If they seldom post any more, why is the crusade for optimism remaining? Are people not happy enough on here for your crabby arse? I know damn well I have said many good things on here about this team and players, so if I remind you of this person, they must have said plenty of good things too, so this whole premisse of this being the black hole of pessimism is just flawed and pointless. Unless like I said, predicting .500 is your definition of a pessimist. But then, you said it wasn't. So color me hard of understanding, but what gives? Is it something you use to get off during the offseason? It's pretty boring for me this time of year too so I need something to do. Maybe I can help. But since NOONE I have seen on here is as you are claiming, and since this individual SELDOM posts any more, what exactly is the point?

Danno 05-24-2005 11:11 AM

You asked if the guy I used as an example still posted. There are numerous examples of pessimism on this board. Why do you think we had a newbie post a topic entitled WHY SO NEGATIVE ?????

BlackandBlue 05-24-2005 11:22 AM

Keep it civil.

Missing the point. You said there are people who post who NEVER have anything positive to say and ALWAYS crap on the team. I said noone here is like that. And we all saw what that voodoo guy was like. I hope he is still around though, but he seemed to be itchign for a fight withthat thread. Everyone on this site has said SOMETHING negative about the team, hell I bet even on the Pats' forum that happens. I am refuting your notion there are certain posters who who ALWAYS post this way and NEVER say anything good about the team. I am sure if they knew who they were, they would want to amend that or at least be aware of it. That's what I am questioning. And if noone here is like that, which I have not seen anyone to just be a 100% crab ass about the team, I don't see the reason for this optimism v. pessimism(loser) thing to even continue. Everyone on here has said something positive about the team, and really shouldn't be faulted for outbursts during emotional times, like the draft, where history appeared to be repeating itself. Cooler heads have prevailed, and we are all looking forward to the season. I guess I am on this so hard cause it appears, at least to me, there has been a different feeling about the forum lately, and I have seen it to be pretty light-hearted, fun, and overall, pretty optimistic yet you still take this hard line OPT v. PES stance whenever anyone has something negative to say, no matter that in another thread they may very well be saying something positive.

But whatever man, you be however you like. I just don't understand it and I guess it is not for me to understand.

Danno 05-24-2005 11:34 AM

Just for kicks I went back and looked at my post.
I NEVER used the word ALWAYS.
I NEVER used the word NEVER.
Did you actually read it or just think the worst?

I'll change my damn signature since its obviously too offensive.

saintswhodi 05-24-2005 11:42 AM

Those comments are from other posts you have made, not just this one but you did say:
Quote:

Mention a positive about our Saints, and there right there with a negative to crap on it.

Do "they" do this once a day, hardly ever, seldom, frequently, always, or never? Seems like to make your point, these individuals would have to be doing this fairly frequently, if not always. If "they" don't, what is your point?

You also said:

If it was this one guy who hardly ever posts anymore, why the attitude still? You said myself and others remind you of him, I know I may be a bit more negative than positive, as well as some others, but I do give positives also, as well as the others, so seems like this mysterious poster was a scapegoat for an attitude that no longer exists, and an excuse to continue to badger anyone who wants to speak out when they feel something is not right with the team.

Danno 05-24-2005 11:45 AM

I'll re-post it since you weren't paying attention:

WhoDat 05-24-2005 11:57 AM

Maybe I missed something, but where's the football talk in all this?? :)

BnB asked you guys to chill it. Just leave it alone.

Whodi is "pessimistic" about the team and "optimistic" about its fans. Danno is essentially the opposite. OK? Are we done now? ;) LOL

BlackandBlue 05-24-2005 12:57 PM

pointless post. go the way of the dodo, thread.
