Out of all the defensive players in the NFC, he was awarded this? I know he had that pick but Thielen had a field day against him. Congrats to him and to our Saints, I just don't see it.

Thielen has field days against lots of players. Still think PJ is bad but in his defense those receivers were making tremendous plays even in tight coverage.

Most people are looking at the current defenses in a vacuum. We only see our players getting burned. The fact is it is happening all across the league. All the new rules give the offenses a great advantage and play calling is also becoming far more aggressive. The mismatches from the slot are killers for everyone. The nickle is being forced to cover the x or y shifting inside much more regularly. We're using that move ourselves with Michael Thomas quite a bit.

Good for PJ. Hopefully this can serve as a confidence boost for him. Confidence is more important for DB/CBs than any other position IMHO.

Saints CB P.J. Williams was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8.

The NFL had far better candidates for the award over Williams. The third-year pro was a total liability in coverage against the Vikings, but forced a fumble and recorded a pick-six that was thrown right to him by Kirk Cousins. Other than that, he was getting beat regularly. Pro Football Focus gave Williams his second-worst grade of the season for the performance, and Williams' struggles this year are one of the reasons why the Saints acquired Eli Apple.

Good for him. I totally respect that he’s out there doing all he can. Clearly he’s got some mental toughness about him. Way to go!
