Cell Phone Re-revisited

Okay, I'll start this new thread since another thread started to turn into the Joe Horn Cell phone good-bad argument.

My 2 cents is That we don't need anymore antics wheather they are funny or not. So Joe produces numbers, that doesn't give you a blankk check to act unprofessionally. And that is what it was an unprofessional premeditated skit. No i didn't get angry or protest, but i was wondering if ithis is the road we can expect to be travelled. Will the next guy plant a dance team and do a broadway number or plant a Mike and Sing a song? Does Marvin Harrison do these things? No. Did jerry rice? No.

It didn't harm but when you want players to be professional this type of stuff isn't. I love Joe and am happy he is still with us. Just play the game and dance at the superbowl.

The bashing may begin now

i seen it live, right above him!! i was in the endzone......i thougt it was great

I thought it was funny. It doesn't bother me too much. I does bother me when I see T.O. do it. Probably just because he is on another team, though. I know one thing, I hated seeing Merton Hanks (49ers CB) do that that chicken thing! That was annoying. That and the Falcons' "Dirty Bird" dance. Really annoying. Of course, it's always annoying when you see a player do that and he celebrating in the Saints' face.

Joe embarrassed himself and his team. He knows that now. He hasn't done anything like it since. He's a great receiver, that's all that matters.

jbutts 05-31-2005 08:04 AM

the thing about the cell phone gag is that it takes emphasis off of the team and puts it on joe. obviously we dont get a touchdown without joe on that play, but without the line blocking, an accurate pass, so and so forth... we get nothing. many of us have griped about this city having a collection of talent, but no real team.

another thing is whenever these incidents occur it tells the fans locally and nationally that we need to celebrate like this because we havent been in the endzone before and done expect to again. i agree with lynwood, save your dancing for the superbowl.

as far as TO goes, i think the main reason he wants a new contract in philly is because he cant handle not being the center of attention, he felt that slipping away in san fran, hence the sharpie and the pompoms, and now in philly with a very much team atmosphere he has to ruin it in order to make the game about TO. i have never met TO, but as far as im concerned i hate him and what he does for the sport of football.

TheDeuce 05-31-2005 08:48 AM

Why did this get brought up again?

Did Joe pull out a cell phone in training camp or something?

The guy has put the antics behind him and just played some damn good football. What's going on here?

WhoDat 05-31-2005 09:08 AM

The guy has been to 4 of the last 5 Pro Bowls. It is very difficult to argue that ANY Saints player EVER has had a better 5 years that Joe has since he came to New Orleans. Now, you guys want to b!tch and moan about one thing he did one time in the thousands of plays he's been a part of over the last 5 years. You want to complain about one thing he did that was moderately offensive at best.... and you guys call me pessimistic!!!!

At least I'm happy with success. I'll take it pretty or ugly, just so long as it comes. That's exactly what Joe Horn has given the team, and every fan of the team for the last 5 years - success. Excellence. Joe Horn needs to shut up and play?!?!?! I think a lot of fans need to shut up and enjoy one of the best players in franchise history.

I started this thread because on another one this topic came up. Figured people still had something to say about it. True Joe hasn't done it since, but really this isn't about Joe. It's about sportsmanship and the Team. Doesn't matter who is doing it on what team.
Good production doesn't mean free pass to perform premeditated skits in the endzone. New England makes it to the superbowl because of this"Team First" concept that the coaches sell.

Its over and done geez. I am undecided on this, I mean its just opening the door for other antics like Moss has pulled and lets not forget NO PLAYER IS ABOVE THE GAME. Not to mention the penalties that cost us do we need any more help to lose a game.

mayoj 05-31-2005 11:16 AM

I think you can see a difference in the actions of the people often brought up when discussing these "antics."

Moss is more of a baby who plays when he wants to and pouts when things go bad. I wouldn't want him on my team.

TO never stops playing (except controversial end with 49ers) but he has to stir the pot and showboat. He has to be the number one at all times; I would want him on my team if the situation were right.

Horn I see as more of an extremely confident goofball, kind of a TO but I don't think he is so interested in being seen as above the rest of the team. He just wants to entertain which I feel never takes a front seat to winning. Control it, keep it at a minimum but realize the NFL is about entertainment and that sometimes harping on and blowing up these antics does more harm than good.

Euphoria 05-31-2005 11:39 AM

It boils down to who has the most class, dignity and sportsmanship. That was out of character for Horn, Hasslett pointed that out to him and he knew it.
