Stallworth

I know alot of people bashing him and him not liveing up to the hype, but when he is actually on the field, isn't he what we wanted from him? He hasn't had a full healthy season, and that he has played half of it, but do you think he is a bust, semi-bust, or what we wanted when he plays? I believe this year he will prove why he was a first round pick, and he will get 60 catches, 800+ yards. Your thoughts?

BTW, sorry I haven't posted on here lately, moved and gotten a job

Well first, he had 58 catches and 767 yards last year and he was fully healthy, so I expect more than that from him this year, and more than 60 catches and 800 yards. He should be a 1000 yard receiver, but he has had his career slowed by the injuries. Hopefully that is behind him. He is always poised for a break out it seems, but I would be happy if he would just be a solid number two. Sure we didn't draft him for that, but if that's what he is, that ain't too bad. Number twos have put up pro bowl numbers previously, so it's not like it's impossible. But he should at least top 1000 yards receiving, and hopefully he will get the ball in stride so he can make something happen with it after the catch. I mean as an injured rookie the guy did have 8 TD catches, and a couple of those were slants where he just beat the corner and raced to the house. Hell, he started the whole river city relay by taking short pass and breaking THREE tackles, so he has big play ability. I just hope he gets to use it.

Actully, I think he grew ALOT last year. I saw him take some hits, hold on to the ball, and pop right back. So yea, this year he should be even better, but overall, I'm reasonably pleased with him.

Euphoria 05-31-2005 09:50 AM

Yeah he should be developing now... but I don't think they really wanted him to take over for Horn. He was draft to be our speed WR not our number one WR. I like Stallworth at number two/three WR spot not at one.

I think his criticism is based wholly on the fact that he was the 13th pick. He hasn't played up to that status yet. If he was a 3rd round pick I don't think he'd be criticized at all.

I think he's a good WR with great upside and will eventually develop into a solid #1WR.
But I don't think he's lived up to the 13th pick yet.

I'm glad Loomis had the foresight to sign him to a somewhat cap friendly 6 year deal. I think 2004 was actually his best year overall as a football player. He played thru pain, looks to be more motivated, made some great catches in traffic, and looks to have "toughened up" quite a bit. I think the next logical step is to combine his explosiveness with the durability and tougness he showed last year. He should take it the distance a lot more this year.

I think he is going to have a great season with continued maturity. Didn't he have screwed up fingers most of last year?? I was pissed at his dropped balls but then learned he was playing with broken fingers and gained a little respect for what he was able to do in such a situation.

I know AB doesn't give much as far as leadership but I think Deuce does on and off the field and that is good for players like Stallworth. Also, I like having Joe Horn around for this reason too. I think the fact that Horn is a little wacky at times but knows when to focus and get the job done is great for a player like Stallworth bc he can relate to the trash talking of Horn and absorb his win-at-all costs mentality.

80 catches 1100 yards

Euphoria 05-31-2005 11:58 AM

I think the ones who think he is going to be a solid number one is misleading themselves. Its overhyped his draft number and so everyone expect certain things from him. He is a role-player, and that is speed wide-out. He isn't a position WR, he isn't a WR you are going to go to in a clutch. He simply stretches the D and gives our number one WR less attention.

WhoDat 05-31-2005 01:41 PM

I dunno if I agree with that. Henderson seems like the deep threat speedster. I think the Saints drafted Stallworth with the hope that he would become a number 1 WR. He has all the physical tools to be a number 1 in the NFL. He just has to stay healthy and improve his hands, and maybe route running.

zachsaints52 05-31-2005 02:34 PM

Yeah, I really wanted to put 80 catches and 1000 yards, but I figured that would have made alot more criticizime. What I think is learning from Horn (on-the field, not off :)), and giving one or two more years, or even this year, he will gain pro bowl status.

FireVenturi 05-31-2005 04:52 PM

if he plays all 16 games i dont know why he wouldn't have 1000 yds and over 10 td's

jnormand 05-31-2005 10:44 PM

I agree with you guys. I think that Stallworth is going to have a great season this year. Hopefully he can stay healthy and put his injuries behind him. I think he as great speed is poised for a break-out season. I don't think Stallworth has lived up to his #13 pick yet, but he has the potential to take it to the house on every catch. I'm not disapointed with him at all. He's solid (when he's on the field) and I think he will be a solid #1 in a few years.

blackwidows 06-04-2005 12:07 PM

yOU KNOW MAYBE EXPECTING TO MUCH FROM STALLWORTH BUT I WANT HIM TO REACH 1,000 YARDS. i also think we should not renew his contract in 2008 unless he reaches 1,000 yards and proves he cannot get injured. he was not injured last year but it did not matter he was not around because he was injured when the saints needed him to get into playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANYHOW IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE 2 1,000 YARD RECEIVERS AGAIN THAT IS UNREALISTIC THOUGH. one thing i will say about stallworth he is responsible for one of the greatest plays in the history of football but karney botches the kick he should of been killed for that. if i had the ability to kill people which i don't i would killed choke under pressure the kicker karney. That was are playoff game to basically
i still don't understand why ther rams went tp playoffs over us. we had the tie breaker since we beat the rams
or else the nfl just hates the saints and wants to kill them any way they can.

WhoDat 06-04-2005 12:12 PM

Once again - I still don't understand why the Saints let Wille Jackson leave - he had 1,000 yards along with Horn in one season as a Saints, was sure-handed, and led the team in YAC in 2000... and was basically the only reason we beat the Rams - he came up huge in that playoff game... well, Willie and Hakim. I don't care what Willie has done since, he was good in NO for two straight years, and the bottom line is that we haven't had a 2nd WR who put up numbers even close to his since he left.
