2009 vs. 2011 vs. 2018: Which team is Saints' best ever?

METAIRIE, La. -- The obvious choice is 2009.

That was the only Super Bowl team in New Orleans Saints history. And they proved just how good they were in the playoffs by rolling through future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Kurt Warner, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning.

But if it's possible to just compare regular seasons, the battle for "best team in Saints history" is awfully tight between '09, 2011 and this current 2018 edition -- all of which finished 13-3 and led the NFL in point differential under the direction of coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees.

Imma have to say super bowl aside the 2018 team is the best ever. This team has proven it can get down n dirty and beat you in a low scoring affair or fly high and dogwalk ppl. But one things for certain this is best defense we’ve fielded in the brees/payton era.

Right now 2009 because they won it, but I believe this is our best team in terms of offense and defense

Agree, but I don’t think we would have won it in 2009 had we played with the 2018 refs.

You don't think Lutz is better than Hartley? And Morstead is actually better named PFF Special Teamer of the year?

No team can advance the ball with receivers being taken out like Tommylee was by that Nickel guy with too many last names...

Re: 2009 vs. 2011 vs. 2018: Which team is Saints' best ever?

2018 Defense had way more talent and was much better; they actually shut teams out in the second halves of games whereas Sharper would bail out the bend-don't-break 2009 defense...

2018 Offense actually had more diverse weapons in Thomas, Kamara, Ingram , Ginn, Cast of Rookies, Tight End was problematic with a rookie needing more reg. season seasoning and a broke-down Watson...

2009 Offense was solid, creative with Colston, Bush (underachieved/miscast), Pierre Thomas (Master of the Screen), Lance Moore (3rd & 5 moves chains), and Jeremy Shockey (partying like he was retired)...

Return game is a wash if it's Tommylee, Kamara changes the dynamic gives 2018 the edge...

Lutz is a far superior, reliable kicker than Hartley ever was...

Morstead is a more experienced punter than then...

One thing I will say, Payton was hungrier and had something to prove in 2009; today, he's trying too hard to be the smartest guy in the room, outfoxes himself, maybe legacy building???

I'd bet on the deep (except O-line), talented roster of the 2018 team over the 2009 team even though Brees has lost some zip on the ball, he's still pre-snap reading better than anyone...
