howard's value

If Alexander is only worth a third round pick, what will we get for Howard next year? Alexander has averaged 16 td's a season the past 4 or 5 years!

What happens if Howard ends up leading the league in sacks? Do we keep him and get rid of Grant or Smith?! Stupid question, but there's not a lot else to talk about!

RE: howard

We're in a tough place with Howard. If we keep him this year (likely) then he'll probably continue to move to DT at times which may reduce his sack total thus reducing his value. If any team would offer a 2nd rounder next year for him now, I'd take it. It won't happen though.

We won't get anything for Howard next year unless we use the franchise tag on him again. Since he's a year older, he'll have to do as well if not better than he did this year. Even then we still aren't guaranteed to get the offers we got this past year.

I think we basicallly just rented him for another year at $7.8 mil

I don't think Howard's situation is quite as bad as GT would have you believe... yet. I believe that sometime in this next year we will be able to get some good value for him. I'm still rooting and praying against all odds our FO does something smart, like trading for Corey Simon!

If we don't do anything within this next year however, I can see his value drop.

I agree with Deuce -- I see him being traded this year -- A lot of trades happen during and after preseason when teams evaluate their needs -- I am sure that there will be one or two teams that find out that they are lacking good DE's and may come running to us then

I agree that he will most likely get traded during or soon after training camp/pre-season. I still believe there is a chance for things to get worked out between the Saints and Eagles for Simon..........PLEASE!!

...actually, I think what is best for the Saints is either keep and sign Howard to a long-term deal or trade him for picks. Rather take out chances in the draft on players for less money. We are going to be strapped for cap space this coming year as well as now. Brining in Simon just going to put more of a strain on the cap.

On June 15th the FO can renegotiate with Howard. I think how that goes (if he signs a friendly long term deal, it'll be fine; if he doesn't we risk losing him or Bentley with no compensation).

I think Howard's value will increase when coaches get to see the rookies in full pads.
