Deuce having impressive offseason!!!

Saints | Sheppard Impressed With McAllister - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 8 Jun 2005 22:59:06 -0700

Chris Pika, of NewOrleansSaints.com, reports New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Mike Sheppard has been impressed by the work RB Deuce McAllister has put in during the offseason. "Watching Deuce hit the hole is pretty good," Sheppard said. "He's playing at a faster pace and he is one of the smartest players I've ever been around, much less on a football team. He's an impressive player."
I hope he's in much better shape. It sounds like he is. Not good news for the 13 teams we play.
I get the feeling this may be his best year ever, even with Smith and Stecker taking away more carries.

I've always wondered why there is this questioning of Deuce's conditioning. Not just by you Danno so don't get offended. Outside of last season, when Deuce openly questioned the decision to change the offense and was unmotivated, when has conditioning been an issue? He had injury concerns at Ole Miss thus his fall to us in his draft, so it's not like it is happening cause he is out of shape. Even when he was in shape he got injured. He ran great the two years prior, and looked great. I am just wondering why his conditioning is always brought up just cause he pouted for one season.

I felt the same way about Jacox... how everyone dogged him after one sub-par year. And look what happened, he beat out Holland before preseason even started. Deuce did come in above his playing weight last year causing speculations that his conditioning had something to do with it. I think last year was a fluke though and it'll probably be his worse season as a pro. Hopefully coming to camp in better shape, we will be able to see those 60 up the gut touchdown runs that we were so accustomed to prior injuries/conditioning.

2200 combined yards and 13 touchdowns are my numbers for Deuce this year.

Danno hates Deuce, that's why he questions his fitness.

I am not saying that at all Who, and I know what you are doing. Shame, shame. But when Deuce is mentioned, Danno does seem to ALWAYS find a way to bring up his conditioning. It was one year, and there was an explanation for it. It may not be an acceptable explanation, but damn. Give the guy a break. Conditioning wasn't an issue when he was making the pro bowl, and it wasn't an issue when he made us forget Ricky in his first year, so it's not an issue. He had one bad year which I am sure he learned from, and learned more about professionalism and accepting change whether he likes it or not. I just don;t understand how his conditioning can constantly be questioned off of one year. If someone came int my job, and changed something that was working well into something I had serious doubts about, you bet your ass I would pout too.

His pouting has nothing to do with conditioning. I don't get the link? Are you saying everyone questions his conditioning because he pouted one game? LOL.

I personally question his conditioning thus far because...
A-He had the reputation for not taking it seriously before it became obvious.

B-He had a rep for being injury prone, which I attribute to conditioning.

C-He looks fat. The Sunday night Deuce bit was flat embarrassing. He looked like an O-lineman. I attribute that to conditioning.

D-He's looked slower every year in the NFL. I attribute that to conditioning.

E-He was outrun by a 33 year old TE, which I attribute to conditioning. No one caught him from behind 3 years ago. NO ONE!!

F-He looked to have lost that burst off the line, which I attribute to conditioning.

G-He publicly stated he was going to take it more seriously than he has in years past. I take that to mean he didn't take it as seriously in years past.

H-His own coaches have stated they want him in better condition.

Thats why I find the above statements very encouraging. If he comes into 2005 in peak shape, I think he'll be nearly unstoppable.

Because I think its his ONLY real weakness.

It was one year, and there was an explanation for it.
No, its been two actually. He's looked slower and fatter every year. And now I'm not the only one talking about it.
Conditioning wasn't an issue when he was making the pro bowl, and it wasn't an issue when he made us forget Ricky in his first year, so it's not an issue.
C'mon, so if a guy makes the pro-bowl, then his conditioning worsens every year, its OK? LMAO. Thats ridiculous. Yea, lets say his conditioning isn't an issue now because 4 years ago (when he was in much better shape) he looked great?

If someone came int my job, and changed something that was working well into something I had serious doubts about, you bet your ass I would pout too.
Again, what does that have to do with questioning his conditioning?

Well, if you read what I wrote, you would see I said he pouted about the change in the offense, which would have happened in the offseason, and not in a game. As he was pouting IN THE OFFSEASON, that limited his dedication to being in his best shape FOR THE SEASON. Again, POUTING IN THE OFFSEASON. Game one, running game and the offense in general looks like crap so Deuce pouts more. Game 2 he gets hurt. After he gets hurt, how the hell could he get in peak form for the rest of the season, even though we all know he came back early from injury? You don't make that kind of change in season after an injury. But far be it for us to cut him some slack.
A-He had the reputation for not taking it seriously before it became obvious.
Who gave him that reputation?

B-He had a rep for being injury prone, which I attribute to conditioning.
Darren Howard has been injured a lot too, is it his conditioning? Victor Riley and Wayne Gandy played all last year. They must have been in great condition since they didn't get injured. Warren Sapp must be in great condition too. Some people just get injured, look at Charles Rogers.

C-He looks fat. The Sunday night Deuce bit was flat embarrassing. He looked like an O-lineman. I attribute that to conditioning.
hmm, poor work ethic ONE offseason, and an injury in season. Seems like that would happen.

D-He's looked slower every year in the NFL. I attribute that to conditioning
Slower every year? He had more totals yards and rushing yards and a higher average per rush in 2003 than in 2002. This flat out isn't true, oh, except for that ONE offseason he pouted. Wow.

E-He was outrun by a 33 year old TE, which I attribute to conditioning. No one caught him from behind 3 years ago. NO ONE!!
This falsehood again. The play in question was Deuce's SIXTH run of the first quarter. He also ran through a tackle. He also was OBVIOUSLY looking over his shoulder for downfield blocking, which happened to be Conwell. Quit exaggerating this one little story.

F-He looked to have lost that burst off the line, which I attribute to conditioning.
Um, yes, for LAST SEASON. His numbers don't bear that out for any other season. If you need to know why this happened last season, see above.

G
-He publicly stated he was going to take it more seriously than he has in years past. I take that to mean he didn't take it as seriously in years past.
Or it could mean he wants to improve on what was already a good offseason conditiong program, EXCEPT LAST YEAR, and improve it.

H-His own coaches have stated they want him in better condition.
Um, I would too after last season.

Anything else? Or can we let this falsehood about Deuce's worsening conditioning EVERY YEAR die as the untruth it is.

Whodi, if you want to have an intelligent discussion, you're gonna have to contribute something. You're responses are so flawed they aren't even worth replying to.
