Saints quarterback Drew Brees on Monday morning (Jan. 28) encouraged fans to channel their frustration into positivity after the team’s controversial NFC Championship loss. His Instagram post on his verified account is the first time he’s commented extensively about his feelings since his postgame press conference.

“I’ve spent this last week navigating the heartache and disappointment from the game,” he posted on Instagram, along with photo of his teammates. “I refuse to let this create any negativity or resentment. I embrace the challenge. So keep your chin up, hold your head high, puff your chest out because WE are the Who Dat Nation and WE will always persevere.”

Saints fans remain angry about a disputed non-call by game officials in the final minutes of regulation of the championship game. A pass-interference penalty against the Los Angeles Rams went uncalled and they beat the Saints in overtime to reach the Super Bowl. The non-call was not reviewable.

“Everything that has ever happened to this community, we have bonded together, galvanized and leaped forward every time,” Brees to his 1.1 million followers.

He encouraged fans to do the same now.

“Pour that passion and emotion into your families and communities,” his post said. “Inspire others with your focus and determination and positive outlook. This will make us stronger, this will bond us tighter, this will be a source for our success in the future."

I’ve spent this last week navigating the heartache and disappointment from the game. Some things within our control and some outside our control that caused us to fall short.

So much of our motivation is to represent the Who Dat Nation with determination and resiliency. We want to play for you, fight for you, and win for you. You deserve that.

The longer I play I realize that we truly are one heartbeat with our fans. Our success is your success. Our disappointment is your disappointment. We are inspired by one another to accomplish things far greater than what we could ever do on our own.

Everything that has ever happened to this community, we have bonded together, galvanized and leaped forward every time. The frustration we feel now can be channeled in the same way. Pour that passion and emotion into your families and communities. Inspire others with your focus & determination and positive outlook. This will make us stronger, this will bond us tighter, this will be a source for our success in the future.

He's playing the long game. It is in his best interests.

I didn't jump up and down and scream and yell - when it happened I simply accepted the outcome and kept my cool...because my son was in the next room, and it's important for me that he not grow up to be one of those guys who allows his emotions to control his actions. You can't get un-robbed, so you have to move forward, but that doesn't mean you forget.

We can't change the outcome, but my son knows I'm not going to watch the super bowl this year, for the first time in his life (he was born the year we won it all), and he knows why, but he also saw me take it in stride.

We can't change the outcome, but we can do what is necessary to hold to account those who blatantly robbed us, our team, our city, the players, coaches - all of us. We can do that by very publicly NOT LETTING IT DIE. Our sports reporters need to keep writing. Our politicians need to keep mentioning it. Our team leaders, from Mrs Benson to Payton to Thomas and Jordan and Kamara and Ingram, they all need to keep doing what they're doing. Our players need to use it as motivation. As fans, we need to bring signs to the game, wear anti-roger t-shirts, expose the Super Bowl as a lie. We have to keep it going. In a thousand different ways. We must.

C'mon Man...
