RE: new stadium

Wow that looks beautiful... and for 450 million that doesn't seem to bad at all.

RE: new stadium

Wow that looks great. To bad it won't happen that makes my hear almost beat out of my chest like going up the tip of a roller coaster the magnum at cedar point. Damn why must New Orleans always suffer. If only we did not depend on the state so much and Benson was not such an astronaut amagin what would happen.

saintswhodi 06-16-2005 03:01 PM

I remember that stadium from Benson's proposal a few years back. They were talking about tearing down the Iberville projects to build it. Thus the "10 blocks from the superdome" talk. what was gonna happen to the cemetaries I don't know. But damn if it wasn't beautiful then, and damn if it isn't now. They need to come to an agreement as I proposed before. Build Tom a new stadium, but don't give him another dollar in payments. Once he gets the new stadium, it is up to him to make sure the team is competitive financially by selling his suites, and putting a winning franchise on the field to fill the rest of the seats. No more hand outs. That's a win-win for both sides, except, oh, then it would be on Tom to spend money to make a winner as he won't be able to continue getting money for nothing. That will probably kill it right there.

I'm starting to wonder if Tom Benson wants a new stadium at all. I'm sure part of him does, but I bet part is happy he doesn't have one also.

Just like I've long held LA out as a very valuable bargaining chip for NFL teams in stadium negotiations, I think Tom is now using a new stadium in the same way. Why have to actually make money yourself when you can demand the stars and end up getting boatloads of free money instead. I mean, why else would you reject the largest subsidy in the league which would guarantee you would never finish below the top 12 in the league in revenue when you're in one of the 4 smallest markets?

...Rams...Raiders.

Tobias-Reiper 06-16-2005 06:50 PM

... Frontiere... Davis...

...but seriously, I will ask again...

..even if a new stadium is built, with 50-60 luxury boxes, who is going to buy them?

I will blow up the Super Dome if saints dont go to the playoffs. haha

Euphoria 06-17-2005 09:18 AM

Dude... comments like that is going to have the FBI and CIA all over ya, this day in age... even if you're kidding. There was a guy in DC said something semilar and got jail time.
My first thoughts of the new staduim plans was I LOVE IT. THen after 20min. I didn't! I want a retractable roof. We can make changes in the weather to suit which the team plays best in... called home field advantage.

jbutts 06-17-2005 10:33 AM

so i know how we can get a new stadium...
we just need to dig down into the louisiana politics bag of tricks.
we dont need a new stadium, we need a new dormitory. that happens to have a 100yd long courtyard in the middle. im sure our local colleges would love some extra housing and contribute.
and after a few years of having tenats we deem the building unfit for living sell it to the new orleans saints at a good price and voila there it is a la LSU tiger stadium.

Euphoria 06-17-2005 02:17 PM

great... now I feel much better. Where to I write the check to fund it.

spkb25 06-17-2005 02:53 PM

saintswhodi i think you are right in what you said. if he got a new stadium i think the state shouldn't have to pay him anything at5 all.

spkb25 06-17-2005 02:55 PM

man if we ended up with that stadium we would be a front runner every year for the superbowl. it is nice

FireVenturi 06-18-2005 08:24 AM

right about know i could careless if we play at muss bertilino as long as they stay here in new orleans, even if we have to play in the old, crappy dome!
