Backup QB

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I know it is still early, but, who do think will start if Brooks goes down! Will it be McPherson or Bouwman?...

RE: Backup QB

If we are in contention for a playoff spot... Bouman.

If we are sucking and have no chance... McPherson.

I remember Bouman coming in a few years ago for Culpepper when Donte' was injured. He lit up two games. The 4-letter network was on his nuts.
I also have seen the pre-season games he has played for us. I haven't been impressed by his performance in those games.
I have seen him perform well and that is what I am holding on to when thinking about Brooks going down. Hope.
Whatever knocks on Brooks anyone wants to bring up; he has been healthy. That could be a by-product of his turning into a total sissy and refusing to run the football... but I digress.
We have no idea what our backup situation looks like. If only Jake had gotten a fair shot.

i remember bouwman did real well for minn. one year. i don't know, i can't see him giving us that. he has seemed really bad since then. mcpherson might be better. i am not sure either way but would probably have to give bouwman the nodd for at least one game. if he doesn't do shiit then start mcpherson.

I believe that AB is our best option at QB right now.

Excuse me please (sound of me slugging myself in the nuts).

I don't advocate starting a 21 year old QB at this time and Bouman is not the answer either imho. But think of another Saints player that anyone has watched and pulled as much hair out over (i'm nearly bald now) as Aaron Brooks. I wanted to accept him but have been burned too often.

It's like wanting out of a marriage after you found out that it isn't what you really thought you were getting.

Well he is ours.... for better or worse.

this is my first comment on the qb situation.i still beleive brooks could become a top qb. i feel like the change of co-ordinators (whom i could anticipate correctly 80% of the time could change him.also, i've seen men considered washed up more than him come to life later in career.i am not brooks lover or hater, but please give him a legimate supported last chance for the sake of our team.remember, even peyton makes errors and don't blame brooks for not giving jake the chance he deserved here.(that was poor coaching)

I like bouman in our new offense... something he is more suited for.

That's a good point Euph.

Bouman is certainly better qualified to hand-off to Duece than he is to throw... just kidding.

Seriously though, I agree that with a more run-centered, power attack, all our QBs will benefit. However, it isn't like the QB was asked to do a lot in our previous offensive scheme. It isn't clear to me what the changes to the playbook are just yet (other than run more) - though that is the kind of thing that will impact who is better suited to play backup.
