Former Saints linebacker Pat Swilling to be inducted into Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame
 

This year’s second announced member of the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame quickly became a pivotal member of the crew that helped transform the city’s team into a juggernaut in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Pat Swilling was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 2000, followed by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009, and on Aug. 10 at a ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the former Saints linebacker will be enshrined for his impact on the entire city’s sports culture.

“I always believed that I could play and play at a high level in the NFL,” Swilling said in a press release. “We were excited to finally bring New Orleans a winner and to make multiple playoff appearances.

“We made it very tough on opponents, especially when they came into our building. It is an honor to add the honor of being in the Hall of Fame of my hometown.”


The third-round selection out of Georgia Tech in 1986 played seven seasons in New Orleans – four of which he recorded 10 or more sacks. That streak began in 1989 with his 16.5 sacks, followed by 1990 where he made a career-best 63 tackles to go along with 11 sacks at his outside linebacker position.

I had the privilege of watching PS play as part of the Dome Patrol and it was amazing!! :-)

Not cheap at all. Starting Lineup figures have a cult following online. Lots of collectors and fan sites for those old figures. Really makes you nostalgic and wishing they were still around.
