Likely a joke. No way this would ever happen. The whole point of sports is to put the best players on the field at all times unless there is truly nothing to play for then the subs enter.
It would be the only sport where they intentionally weaken the product the entire season. |

NFL: Take away two preseason games and add two regular season. Here's the BIG BUT. Players can only appear in 16 of the 18 games. Aren't they just inserting "TWO PRESEASON" games into the "REGULAR SEASON"?

Goodell: We could have players restricted to sixteen (16) games in a eighteen (18) game regular season... NFLPA: That wouldn't work, fans don't want to be deprived of watching their stars and players won't want to sit if game is competitive... Goodell: Okay, we'll compromise and let players just play eighteen (18) games then... |

This would ruin the league.
For a while in MLB, I've wanted the league to reduce the number of game and increase the time between games. I've always believed that the regular season and the post season should be fairly similar. In MLB, doing this wold reduce the number of pitchers in each team's rotation so that the best pitchers for each team are throwing on a nightly basis. This way each game is always one team's best against the other team's best. Why the hell would the NFL strive to do the exact opposite of this? They are basically saying that they are ok with their best product not being on the field. |
