Trading for Tebucky?

Black and Blue - I think he meant that Colvin posted double digit sacks just like Clemons did at OLB two years ago, and that Colvin wouldn\'t be any better than Clemons was at MLB (I\'m assuming Lumm0x thought that Colvin would be moved to middle linebacker). I agree, although I think Colvin probably could have been an OLB for us. That\'s the problem with the guy though. The Saints like Allen and Hodge at OLB. I can\'t say I blame them. They\'re both young and seem to have potential and speed. If used right we could end up with two pretty good OLBs that were basically unknowns. Of course, the opposite is true too. They could end up being terrible.

GATOR - I like it!! But if they remove the franchise tag, why would we have to give up a pick? Couldn\'t we just sign him? I\'m confused with this situation.

He\'s franchise tagged right now, but why wouldn\'t we wait until they remove the tag?

Ahhh, ok, thanks for clearing that up. I was thinking that if they did sign Colvin, they would have him play opposite Hodge (as I like his potential) and bench Allen (who I\'m not high on), and have Ruff in the middle. But yeah, moving Colvin to MLB would be a disaster, as it doesn\'t play to his strengths.

This is the way the Pats are playing this. The Frachise tag can be removed if a team wishes to negotiate with Jones just like bufalo did with Price and Atlanta. The patriots will not keep Jones on the roster after July 15, when they will need the money to sign their picks, but they will keep him on till then. If a team wishes to wait until the middle of July when 90% of the teams have no money left they can make a move for him. But you will need to keep the money open past your picks and june free agency period. If you want to get him before then it will have to be a trade. The pats have no reason to remove the tag unless for the purpose such as Buffalo and the Falcons.

I don\'t see how anyone would make a bid for someone that you know aren\'t going to be there. Look at Turley, one of the things that are hurting our prospects (besides his mouth) is that he is one year out from the end of his contract.
If any team is dumb enough, let them have him, but I don\'t see it happening. The only thing keeping the franchise tag on Tebucky does is hurt Tebucky.

Well hell, with Hand still on the roster you never know. We might have an extra $5.5 mill laying around come July. I\'d give up a 3rd rounder for Jones to shore him up now. Not much more than that. I doubt anyone else will either.

My big problem is that you are giving a guaranteed player (by using a draft pick) to trade for a player who is not going to be under contract and who may not want to play for your team.

Sure he will. After we pick up Woodson and McGolckton and draft EJ Henderson he\'ll beg to play on our D.

Any deal would have to be a sign-and-trade deal. But that\'s hardly the problem. A trade would be a good idea, prefarably Turley for Jones. Will Turley sign a deal to play in a cold-weather town? I doubt it. So that\'s gonna be problematic. Dealing a first round pick for Tebucky to the Patriots? He\'s worth it because that\'s the area of need for the Saints. And he\'s only just worth it, you may as well not trade. I don\'t think Loomis will give up one of the two first rounders, he just LOVES the draft.
As much as I would like to see Tebucky in Louisiana I doubt they\'ll get a deal done. Any other ideas for a trade, not involving Turley or a high pick (ahm, and not Hand, I don\'t think they want him)?

Black and Blue, most of the guys summed up my thoughts. I was referring to how Clemons performed as OLB with sack totals comparing to Colvin\'s. I would never concieve to move Colvin to MLB just like Clemons didn\'t pan out there. I was thinking would Colvin be any better than Clemons was at OLB? It\'s tough to be better than 13.5 sacks at that position in a 4-3. While Colvin is a definite upgrade over James Allen at OLB so would moving Clemons back there and retaining a guy that has a couple years knowledge of our defense and eating the crow and admitting his poor play was due to playing out of position.
As for Tebucky I agree that I think they\'re trying to mimic the Bills play with Peerless Price.
