Trading for Tebucky?

One thing to keep a close eye on is that the Patriots are getting close, I mean really close to a deal with SS Lee Flowers. Adding Flowers would allow the Pats to talk to the Saints about a possible trade involving Tebucky "My Lucky" Jones. Since Jones is franchised it would require one of the Saints first round choices and would give the Patriots three mid first round selections. Jones is still young, would add a tremendous amount of speed to the secondary (played CB at Syracuse), but at what price? Seems like we won't get a chance to entice Rodney Harrison to visit with Denver and Oakland wining and dining the ex-Charger. What do y'all think about trading for Jones?

May be we should trade both our picks away. One for Woodson and One for Tebucky Jones. They are both young and both very talented with experience. It means we can count on them to give performances in the NFL cause they already proven themselves. Many may argue 1st round draft choices may bring better players, come on seriously do u think anywhere in the draft there is one cornerback or safety that can match these guys skills. Even they are rated now, how do we know that they won\'t go bust when they hit NFL. So my sole opinion would be to trade both picks for Charles Woodson and Tebucky jones respectively.

Trading for Tebucky?

ok, here is my 2 cents in this issue.
i think yall are all crazy, here is our situation, we have Kyle Turley, who plays at one of the most important positions on the offensive lines, and who we are shopping for a first round pick, we arent being shy about it and that is the asking price....but....

you guys actually think that trading a first round pick for a safety is a smart idea?, when we can barely get a first round pick for one of the most important position players?

i can only see trading 1st round picks for some positions, and safety isnt one of them, especially for one who hasnt proven himself to me, i just dont think he is everything that you guys are making him out to be, yes, he is good, i just dont think he is worth trading a first round pick for, we gave up a future hall of famer in Willie Roaf last year for a conditional 5th round pick (3rd rnd now), and you are telling me that Jones is worth a first round pick? please, stop the madness. the only reason Jones was franchised, was b/c the pats know that the franchise level for a safety is only 3 million dollars, which isnt a bad price to pay for a quality safety considering that there are some excellent safetys out there who only make around 3 million a year

5:24 PT: The Denver Post reports the New England Patriots reportedly will now remove the franchise tag from free agent S Tebucky Jones, now that they have added S Rodney Harrison. Jones will become an unrestricted free agent.

Why give up a draft pick when you can just sign him outright

Pak - I agree completely. A first rounders is too much to give up ON TOP of the salary we\'d have to pay Jones. However, thanks to Black and Blue\'s post it looks like it\'s a mute point. If they do remove the franchise tag, let\'s go get him!

Well, I couldn\'t find any info in ESPN\'s website to confirm my previous post. I will keep searching.

EDIT: It is confirmed

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/gen...ageId=10360649

FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) _ The New England Patriots signed Pro Bowl safety Rodney Harrison, their second significant move to bolster their defense in less than 24 hours.

Patriots spokesman Anthony Moretti said Harrison agreed to terms with New England uesday night. Terms were not disclosed. The Patriots also signed linebacker Rosevelt Colvin on Tuesday.

Harrison, 30, was plagued by a groin injury last season. He started 13 games, recording two interceptions, two sacks and 88 tackles, including 12 in the final game of the year against Seattle, tying a season high.

Harrison\'s signing gives the Patriots some flexibility in their secondary. Starting safety Tebucky Jones, whom the team has labeled its franchise player, is unsigned, as is safety Victor Green.

Harrison was named to the Pro Bowl in 1998 and 2001. His best year statistically was in 2000, when he had six interceptions, six sacks and 127 tackles.

So is it confirmed that Jones is no longer franchise tagged? Or just that Harrison signed?

I was sad to see Roosevelt go to the Patties. I would have like to see him in black and gold.

Although I am happy that Tebucky Jones may become available if they drop the tag, I wasn\'t a big proponent of getting Roosevelt Colvin. Although adding a double digit sacker is desirable, I believe that the use of Charlie Clemons last year was simply taking him out of his strength element and putting him in position to fail. I wouldn\'t of thought Colvin would produce any different result than Clemons if both are used the same way.

As for Jones, I think the Pats will wait to remove the tag until after the draft and all available safeties are gone, hoping that someone who gets desperate when they can\'t land a safety gets jumpy. There are alot of GM\'s out there that make spontaneous decisions when their plans get foiled on draft day.

Patriots are not going to keep two safeties on the roster for $3 million each, and the rest of the league knows this. If they try and play this game, they will get nowhere.
Colvin was the one FA I wanted to see in Black and Gold. Not sure where the Clemons comparison comes in as a factor, as Colvin plays OLB. Are you talking about him adjusting to the defensive scheme? I\'m confused and just want to clear up what you posted.
