Actually, Jakes numbers last year across the board were better than AB's, and he had half the team around him. Just check the QB rating. 87.3 for Jake, 79.5 for AB. Jake 29 TDs, AB, 21. Jake also had more yards. And was in the Superbowl his first year as a starter also, threw 3 TDs no INTs against NE. So yeah, we won't go there. It's embarrasing when AB gets compared to real QBs.

FU.. Jake and his homeboy status........he's gone
bye......
I liked him 2 and questioned why he didn't come in in 2002 when Brooks was hurt.
BUT HE IS GONE
WE GOT BROOKS!!!!
No matter what you think of the coaching staff, Brooks is our guy.
So rally behind number 2 as this will be his best season yet.

..so what if he's a home boy favorite...

... why are you a fan of the Saints? Because they are from Kentucky?? NO! Because the team is based in New Orleans... can't really say the team is from New Orleans, because I don't think 2% of the team hails from within the State of Louisiana...

Jake Delhomme is a home boy... he's got a great attitude, and is a better QB than Brooks to booth

I, too, was sad to see Jake go. All things being equal, I would take him on my team over AB.

But, I'll say this, I watched the game tape of the last game this past week and Jake had a BAD game. He missed moose on some big plays and really should have won the game had he hit a couple of those throws.

Again, I like Jake's approach better and would prefer to have him on my team, but people tend to wax nostalgic about him and ignore his poor performances. Objectively speaking, Saints fans would have killed Brooks had he had the game Jake had in week 17. I'm as tired of AB as anyone....I'm just being honest here.

Last year was a tough year for Jake and he gutted it out, but making excuses about the O line and all that stuff doesn't work in the AB argument, so why should it work in the Jake argument? It shouldn't. AB sucked last year, no doubt. But our O line was not exactly Patriot like either.
The fact of the matter is, in the last game of the year, with the playoffs on the line, AB had a better game than Jake. You gotta give credit where credit is due. Having said that.....this was the first time AB and Jake have gone head to head where AB got the best of him. But, it is the most recent and the stakes were pretty high. (At least we thought they were until we got porked by some ridiculous tiebreaker.) God, I hate the Vikings.

Hmm, Jake had a bad game, and it happened to be against us. Okay. What did he do in the superbowl, on the biggest stage in any professional players career? With the running game doing squat and NE scoring on the Panthers defense at will? Remember that? 3 TDs, no INTs. Is there a bigger game than that? Sorry, i'll forgive him his one bad game with half his team out verses absolutely serving NE in the Superbowl. Had their dumb ass kicker not kicked the ball out of bounds and given the Pats the ball to start at their own 40, Delhomme would have been the MVP of that Superbowl. So forgive me if one bad game doesn't cause me to knock him. Who here feels AB would play even a decent game with Horn out, Deuce out, Stecker out, and LeCharles out on offense? Anyone? He rarely does with them lining up every week.

Let's keep this simple. Delhome=better than AB.
AB=our current QB
Our current QB=wrong choice by the team
Wrong choice by the team=As Saints fan, we just have to live with it, we don't have to like it.

I guess I must have missed the part in my post where I said that Jake had a bad superbowl. Or the part where I said that AB was better than Jake.

So, your whole "let's keep it simple" stuff is unnecessary. I got that part. I covered it in my post.

My point was that Jake has become infallible in some people's eyes. He plays for the Panthers, get over it. AB is mediocre to bad, depending on what day it is.

He played out of his mind in 2003, I'm not knocking him. The 2nd half of the superbowl was very impressive. But, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the last time these 2 teams were on the field.

If you're gonna mention the injuries, then mention the fact that our D has recently not been nearly as good as the '03 Panthers. Our O line hasn't been that good. They were a good all around team and Jake was a perfect fit for them

So, Jake had a great QB challenge. Fantastic. Couldn't happen to a better guy. But...who cares? If someone came on here touting AB's winning the distance challenge 2 years ago, they would have been run outta here with talks about intangibles, stats, and who cares what someone does in a challenge.

Look, I like Jake alot. I said that before. Even watching the game film where we beat them, his mannerisms in the huddle are more in line with what I would like to see. He shows alot of passion and leadership. And...I think he's a flat out good guy. Probably be great to have a beer with. AB's a flake...period. But, get over it. Move on. Root for the Panthers. It's in the past now and, as Saints fans, we gotta live with where we are.

I was as mad as anyone that AB/Haz drove this thing off a cliff in '02. But, it's 2005 and that stuff is behind us. This year may truly be win or be gone...not just for Haz or AB, but for the New Orleans Saints. Jake plays for a rival now....I'm done with him.

You didn't say anything about the superbowl, but you didn't fail to mention his one bad game in a crucial situation. I found the Superbowl to be a more crucial situation and he performed on par with anyone, and beyond. That's the relation. And what does the challenge have to do with anything? It hasn't happened yet. I said it was a rumor. It has nothing to do with Jake being better than AB, the 29 Tds and 87.3 rating took care of that. If the rumor was true, it was good news for a local guy. Period. If you use it as fodder for an AB-Jake debate, that's on you. I wasn't.

SO again, I live by the last line of keeping it simple:

Wrong choice by the team=As Saints fan, we just have to live with it, we don't have to like it.
I don't have to be a Panthers fan cause I like Delhomme. I like Marshall Faulk and Aeneas Williams and Trev Faulk too, should I go be a Rams fan? I like Kevin Faulk and Rohan Davey and Randall Gay and Marquise Hill, should I go be a Pats fan? I like Delhomme cause he is from my home state, and he is doing well. The fact that he is a good QB just makes it that much easier to like him. The fact that he is a great, humble guy just makes me dislike the choice we made even more. The only time I have to dislike any of these guys is when they play us. I ain't gonna knock 'em just cause they play for a different team. To each his own.

Fodder for debate?

How many times in this thread have I said that I like Jake better than AB? 5?
There's no debate coming from me on that.

I was just saying that we got over the curse of Jake in week 17. For a while there, I thought we would never beat him. I made the simple ackowledgement that we beat him in a big game where he played poorly. AB had his best game of the year and the Saints won....I like it when that happens. Jake missed some wide open shots in that game and people around here (other than those who sniff AB's jock) seem hesitant to view Jake objectively. I never knocked jake...I just said he had a bad game and we capitalized.

Yes, we made a bad choice and the recent history of the Saints could have taken a much different feel had Jake stayed. But, this team will drive me crazy enough on the field without me worrying about how stupid they were in 2002.
