Catching up with Jake

When asked about the injuries that led to the Panthers’ 1-7 start last season, Delhomme said, “We got beat up, but we don’t blame the injuries. We just didn’t play well in our first eight games.�[/b]

Delhomme also didn’t shy away from taking blame for the team’s poor play.

“I put a ton (of pressure) on myself and I played absolutely like a dog the first half of the season. I played terrible. When the players went down (to injuries), my first reaction was I’ve got to make plays or I’ve got to do this,� Delhomme said.
With a healthy team and free agent acquisitions, the Panthers should be in the playoff hunt once again.

One key player missing from the Panthers’ offense will be receiver Muhsin Muhammad. He signed with the Chicago Bears after catching 16 touchdown passes last season.

Delhomme said the Panthers have talented receivers even without Muhammad.

“Steve Smith will be back and he was our No. 1 guy two years ago. Muhsin came in and did a great job. I would’ve been glad to have him back. But, when (wide receiver) Steve (Smith) got hurt, Kerry Colbert wasn’t even active. Then he starts playing and wound up on the all-rookie team. We will be OK,� Delhomme said.

It was good to speak with Delhomme again after his departure from the Saints.

He is still as humble and unassuming as ever. He is clearly one NFL player who is thankful for his opportunity and who respects the fact that an NFL career, much like a win on Sunday, is to be treasured.

It really is getting old to see this over and over. Not to mention that the success that Jake has had in Carolina does not guarantee that he would have been equally successful here had he stayed. He took the 2003 Panthers to the superbowl, but after watching the 2003 Saints, I can't say he would have helped us do any better than 8-8 that year.

Getting old to who? Does it get old when people say we should have kept Roaf? I hear that every time his name is mentioned. Please.

I don't see weeks of posts dedicated to Roaf, I don't see years of posts and a entire forum dedicated to Gandy bashing. The Jake bullcrap got old years ago, like 2 years ago when he left! How often does Roaf name get mentioned here? I probably couldn't find it on the forum board anywhere right now, look for Jake's name, you can find it 10 times a day. The worshippers don't get tired of seeing it, normal people do.

Boy are you forgetful, kind'a selective forgetfulness. Jake in his first season? How long has Jake been in the NFL? How many starts did he have with the Saints? How long was he in NFL Europe playing? THAT'S THE FIRST PART OF YOUR SELECTIVE MEMORY. Jake got all the practice time in the world, in NewOrleans with what 2-3 different Coaching staff's. See it seems Haslett wasn't the only one that didn't have Jake starting. The guy in NFL Europe had him backing-up Pat Barnes, Ditka had'm backing-up Billy Joe 1-2.

And after his first year of fulltime starting, I think he put up numbers his second year similar to AB'S numbers his second year of fulltime starting, it also seems we had the same record at the end 7-9 as the Panthers last year. Sooooo yet again, you are right in the end.You have been shown-up again!! And by the way, I don't remember ever hearing Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Donovan Mcnabb's people hyping, "having been there", nothing from what i'm told matters unless you win it! Getting there on your own merit, lets see Jake do that. If he's what you say he is, then he can do it this year, no excuses, no more injuries. I'm very thankful to God for giving us the Panthers the first game, so I can put your face square in AB'S arse and tell you to kiss it.
