Also, if you remember, Brooks and Deuce had a couple of botched hand-offs. I guess they both have to take the blame for that.

What I was getting at, is this: I, personally am not calling for Brooks to leave, but others are. If he continues to put up good numbers, but New Orleans will not accept him as their quarterback for his "childish" mistakes then obviously he'll leave and play where he is wanted. If he continues to put up good numbers, I'd imagine he'd find plenty of teams that would give him the starting job.

i can't imagine us having much of a shot at the playoffs without arron this year. i think he could play well this year. i really hope he does. he will have better line play and deuce should return to form and that will all help. now if our d steps up we should be in a really good situation.

Sarcasm?

The thing that kills me about Brooks is that he always does just enough to just keep his job, but never anything more. He has never developed into the great quarterback that his talent could allow him to reach, but he has also never had an awful season. He always puts up pretty good stats, but he is never good enough to get us over the hump. His mediocrity and lack of discipline drives me nuts, but hopefully he can change some of that this year.

Euph - I understand the point you're trying to make, but do you truly believe that Brooks is A) as talented as Deuce comparatively for his position, or B) has performed as well, or C) has the potential to continue to perform at a top 5/Pro Bowl level?

Well -- 1st -- Brooks is the starting QB. No one else on the team can give us a better chance to win. So we have to take the good with the bad. And believe me there is a lot of both in Brooks. One can only hope that this year there will be more good than bad.

As for the others -- Amac isn't ready right now -- but you cannot get rid of him -- not with the tremendous upside he has.

That leaves Kingsbury or Bouman. Tough choice -- but since I say we gotta keep Amac as the project unfortunately that means (to me) we need Bouman as the second stringer. Might be a waste of money but at least he has starting experience under his belt.

Not that I am a huge Brooks fan (he upsets me because I only see him really playing with passion or heart for parts of the game) but we have to hope that he stays healthy for the year

Well we would admit Deuce is a top 10 RB, in that same breathe you also have to say that Brooks is a top 10 QB... I am not buying that he "hasn't developed as a QB" when he is a top 10 QB. The problem is the team as a whole... the blame should fall on the coaches!!! When you have players making mental mistakes its the coaching not the player. Brooks isn't the next coming of Bret Farve but if ya wanna dump brooks then lets dump Deuce after all Deuce didn't have a great year last year either.

I think you missed a smiley. I'll put one in for you: :D

McCarthy screwed up Deuce last year. He wanted Boo and Conwell on the field at the same time, so he installed that crappy two TE set. Deuce didn't like it.

When Deuce was successful what did he have:

1) A solid OL.
2) A stud FB in Smith.

I look to the upcoming 2005 season and I see:

1) A solid OL (especially the right side) and
2) A stud FB in Karney.

Add to that a committment to the run my Sheppard and I see Deuce surpassing his 2003 numbers.

Paying Deuce the money was the right thing to do.

So I added that smiley for you. It is what you wanted right?

... the question you have to ask yourselves is:

.. is there a precedence for a QB with no NFL starts, no NFLE starts, and maybe 1 or 2 quarters of preseason under his belt, to come off the bench, and win, say, a playoff game?

AAADRIANNN!!!!!

Brooks.

Its sometime better going into that situation with someone they know very little of and they can't or have not prepared for. Bringing in AM or KK would keep them on there toes.
