IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Right cornerback: Despite skipping the spring coaching sessions, Fakhir Brown has established himself as the starter with a strong camp. He has been one of the most consistent performers on the defense. Behind him, Fred Thomas also is having a solid camp. Thomas began last season as the starter before Brown won the job, so the team has two experienced options. Rookie Dwight Ellick has terrific speed and could develop into a decent prospect if the Saints want to keep him on the practice squad.

No. | Player | Ht. | Wt. | Exp.

WHO'S HOT:

AARON BROOKS

Coaches have been praising Brooks' performance since the winter conditioning program and spring practice sessions. Heading into his fifth season as the Saints' starter, Brooks has looked crisp and fluid throughout camp. Saturday night was no exception. Brooks completed all three passes he attempted during the team scrimmage, and before that he consistently was on target during every throwing drill.

WHO'S NOT:

JASON CRAFT

The veteran cornerback couldn't make the trip because he came down with the flu and was suffering from an ear infection.

PLAYS OF THE DAY:

Backup kicker Nate Fikse made both of his field-goal attempts, a 47-yarder and a 46-yarder. . . . Cornerback Fred Booker snatched an interception after tight end Zachary Hilton couldn't reel in a pass. . . . Quarterback Adrian McPherson scrambled for a first down on third-and-5.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"It was a screen pass, but I saw the end coming around the corner. . . . Man, I wish I didn't have a red jersey on, because I wanted to go all the way." -- McPherson on his first-down scramble.
