WOW! I had no idea. Not a real value for that price.

SaintFanInATLHELL 08-09-2005 09:10 AM

Don't be fooled by the disparity of the numbers. Almost all major NFL contracts are frontloaded with a huge signing bonus and backloaded with huge salaries that will most likely never be seen. Note that Brooks' contract only has 3 years left on it while the others are 4 years or more. Note the huge jump that Penninton's contract takes starting in 2006.

Comparing salaries for a single year is pretty much a waste of time. You have to view the overall contract: signing bonus, number of years, backloaded years, and whatnot in order to get a fair comparison.

You can rest assured that this is Brooks' (and probably Green's) last big salary year. Next offseason those contracts will be renegotiated with another moderate signing bonus (probably in the $10 mil range) along with 4 to 6 more years with small salaries up front, and huge salaries that will never be paid.

SFIAH

WhoDat 08-09-2005 09:13 AM

His cap number is even larger - something like 7.5 million I think.

Then again, SF just paid a rookie a lot more. Think he'll be better or worse? Mike Vick has a contract worth 3 times as much, and though Vick is definitely a game-breaker, Brooks is a better QUARTERBACK right now. Hell, Delhomme makes more than Brooks now... actually, it's about the same. Then again, Delhomme is a better QB, so... :)

And the curious few are supposed to glean exactly what from all of these figures?

TheGambler 08-09-2005 11:31 AM

I love how Brooks totally outshined Jake in that final game.........with a playoff berth hanging on the line. I hope he does the same in Week 1.

WhoDat 08-09-2005 02:05 PM

LOL

When a person on this board criticizes AB, someone always seems to run in and talk about how AB has such a bad defense, his running game sucked in '04, his WRs drop passes, he threw more than any other QB in the league, his offensive line is terrible... blah blah blah.

Yet, when you look at a game like the Carolina game, AB outplayed Delhomme.

Nevermind the fact that Jake attempted 50 passes to AB's 24.
Nevermind the fact that Jake racked up 307 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs. (AB - 216, 1, 0).
Nevermind the fact that Deuce ran for 140 yards, Goings rushed for 46 (only 13 carries).
Nevermind that the Saints defense allowed fewer yards and points.
Nevermind that the Saints D had 5 sacks in the game (Brooks was sacked 3 times).
Nevermind that the Saints D held the Panthers to 10 points until the closing moments of the 4th quarter.
Nevermind that the Saints had 3 takeaways.

Nope, none of those things matter when you're talking about how well AB played - only when you're talking about how poorly - then those are all perfectly good excuses.

Here's something else hilarious I've noticed...

none of those things matter when 80% of this board talks about how bad AB is either, they're simply excuses. I find it humorous it suddenly matters when the topic is Jake Delhomme, or any QB not named Brooks.

WhoDat 08-09-2005 02:22 PM

OK fine. Good point. I'll concede. None of those things matter at all. Delhomme had better numbers in every category last season. Delhomme is the better QB. Ta-da. I like the way you're thinking Danno - keep that up.

More than likely why Brooks name ended up on a list ???

QB Aaron Brooks / Saints
A base salary of $5.5 million isn’t ridiculous for a quarterback, but Brooks' development seems to have plateaued or, in the eyes of some, completely regressed. Brooks has been enigmatic at best over the last 25 games. Also, WR Jerome Pathon ($2.5 million base) won’t be back in New Orleans at that price.

I suppose we and others are gleaning up the thought of is Brooks worth the cap hit . Some think not .....

I agree, but those excuses shouldn't be made for other quarterbacks when comparing them to AB. Jake and AB are both decent QB's. I don't really favor one over the other. IMO if AB plays well, he deserves his props. When he plays bad, he deserves his critizism. Same thing for every QB in the NFL.

Assuming Jake is a better QB, and honestly I don't think he is.........it really is of no benefit to the Saints if he IS better, other than the occasional "I told you so" or "we kept the wrong guy" from bitter fans.

I don't have anything against Jake, personally..........but dear Lord, I honestly think some of you guys would rather see Carolina beat us twice a year, just so you can blast the Saints' personnel decisions at QB. Some of you, deep down, would rather Jake have a 300+ yard game, with 2 or 3 TDs, and see Aaron throw 2 INTs and have 2 fumbles.....just so you can say SEEE??? SEE??? SEE WHAT I MEAN? Maybe those guys aren't necessarily ROOTING for Carolina.....but if the end result favors Carolina, then I doubt they'll cry in their beer too much. After all...JAKE WILL HAVE WON!!!!

If you guys want ANY chance of a successful season this year.........you'd better damn well pray every night that Aaron Brooks takes every snap this year. ADRIAN MCPHEARSON IS NOT THE ANSWER.........at least not this year. And quite frankly, I really don't feel like watching him go through rookie growing pains when we have a PERFECTLY CAPABLE QB at the helm.

Saints 31, Carolina 17...........in Game 1. Look for Brooks to have a solid outing.

saintswhodi 08-09-2005 11:52 PM

hmm, so just cause someone is your qb, you have to like and support them, no matter how much they f%^k up? at the worst possible times? don't think so. yankee fans boo a dynasty team when they aren't playing well, why should we cut fumbles any slack? i could care less if he Gets hUrt. I don't think we are going very far with hiM anyway. he is not indispensiBle, like peOple wanna make it seem. We will run the Ball more anyway, so we Can get it done should he go down. If not, it's not like we are losing a pro bowl qb or something.

i also don't think anyone wants carolina to ever Beat the saInts in any game, it just so happens they usuaLLY do, and jake has been the qb. we already knew the fo sCrewed up the wAy he Rolled against ne in the suPerbowl, wE doN'T nEed caRolina beating us any more to show that. that argument is moot.

Your totally wrong , Sorry but you are .

We are doing our part as fans to help Brooks be all he can be by comparing him to Delhomme ......

Can't help it Brooks is an unmotivated slouch , who needs inspiration to win a game in December .

Saints hope Brooks keeps “chip on shoulder

Aaron Brooks finished the season very strong – both on and off the field. His emotions, which were aroused by constant comparisons to his former backup Jake Delhomme and his successful cousin Michael Vick – were on public display after a final four-game win streak and a very emotional final win over Delhomme and the Panthers.

Start something? Me? As I understand it, certain individuals were banned. Didn't think it was wrong to guess if they were trying to get back in on the sly. I noticed a similarity, and seems i'm not the only one. SO yeah, I am trying to start something, insuring that rules that are set are enforced. There's no problem with that is there?
