Owens leaves Eagles Camp

Report: Owens leaves Eagles camp after spat with Reid

Aug. 10, 2005

CBS SportsLine.com staff and wire reports

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Terrell Owens has left Philadelphia Eagles training camp and returned to his home in New Jersey following an apparent verbal disagreement with coach Andy Reid, Philadelphia's ComcastSportsNet.com reported Wednesday.

The dispute occurred during a meeting, the report said. Owens left the meeting, packed up his belongings and drove home.

Owens’ publicist, who confirmed the incident and that Owens has left, is currently en route from Los Angeles to Philadelphia, the website said.

Owens did not practice with the team Wednesday morning but did work out with assistant trainer Chris Peduzzi on one of the adjacent practice fields.

Owens has missed five of the last six days with a groin injury suffered last Thursday. He ran some light routes and caught passes from a machine.

Owens is seeking to renegotiate the seven-year, $49 million deal he signed last year. The Eagles have said they would not do so. On Aug. 1, Owens reported to camp on time, and agent Drew Rosenhaus said a walkout was unlikely.

Wonder if Reid said, "And don't let the door hit ya in the arse"?

From Foxsports.com...

FOXSports.com has learned that this latest incident was triggered when Owens refused to participate in a mandatory autograph session for wide receivers. After Owens was told by head coach Andy Reid that today was his turn to sign autographs, the wideout ignored the head coach and simply brushed past him.

In addition to this latest transgression, Owens has pretty much stopped communicating with members of the coaching staff. Sources have said that at times he has completely ignored some in the organization.

If Peter Warrick gets cut, in which he probably will be, I think the Eagles will definately pick him up. Greg Lewis isn't too bad and if they get Warrick they'll be fine without T.O. They made it to the Superbowl without him, I don't see why they still can't. The enigma Koren Robinson is still on the market also... they'll be fine as usual.

saintswhodi 08-10-2005 04:23 PM

I disagree papz. None of those guys you mentioned is TO. Last season, TO has as many TDs as all their other receivers combined, even when he missed games with a broken ankle. Without TO, they don't get as many wins as they got, they prob don't make the Superbowl. It just so happens the NFC was extra cream puff last year. If TO doesn't play in the Superbowl, they aren't even in that game. I don't think they will come anywhere near last year if they don't have TO. Everyone in the NFC for the most part has improved, and the Eagles are taking a step back without TO and without Simon. That closes the gap for everyone else. Which, in a roundabout way is good for us, one less elite team to worry about should we make the playoffs. I would much rather face the Eagles with Lewis as the number one than with TO as the number one.

papz 08-10-2005 05:06 PM

They made it to 3 or 4 consecutive NFC Championship games w/o him being on that team. T.O. was out when they made it to the Superbowl. Andy Reid is a fabolous coach and always find other players to get the job done. When he let Trotter walk, someone else filled in. When Taylor and Vincent left, two other guys stepped in. Reid never has a problem with letting stars go and replacing them effectively. Their defense is the key to their success and it's still intact and as strong as ever. L.J. Smith will be more of a factor this year as well as Greg Lewis. They still have the dynamic Westbrook along with super stud McNabb... I have no doubt they'll sign someone that will fill in admirably. If they aren't able to sign someone in the free agent market, T.O. will certainly bring someone good back in a trade.

I really don't think Simon is going anywhere. Even if he does, they'll still have Walker and Patterson will be a decent fill in. With the secondary, linebacking crew, and Walker/Kearse anchoring that defense... I expect them to be in the NFC Championship once again.

Anyways, T.O. will probably show back up. He's leaving millions of dollars on the table along with fines if he doesn't show up. I also would rather our Saints face a T.O.-less squad... but I doubt that happens. Actually if you really think about it... Westbrook would be more of a concern to us than Owens.

Tobias-Reiper 08-10-2005 05:17 PM

Owens is NOT the reason why the Eagles reached the Superbowl...
..and while T.O. got more TD's than those other receivers mentioned, the other receivers didn't start for the Eagles, i.e., a very good offense that has been getting the job done for 4-5 years now...

...if I were the Eagles owner, I'll give T.O. the Ricky Treatment, sue him for the signing bonus money and cut his sorry behind... talent or no talent, one player is not worth it...

.. it just amazes me how time after time, owners and FO's fall for the "we need this guy to win", and time after time, it is proven again and again that one guy is not going to make you win ...

BTW, the Fleurs make it very hard to type...

man i am listening on tyhe internet on wip 610 (the local sports station in philly) and i can tell you almost all of the fans calling in are really pissed.

GoldenTomb 08-10-2005 06:05 PM

forget the stats and the x's and o's....i think the Eagles don't do as well this year simply because of this whole ordeal in the first place. I think this whole thing has given McNabb a chink in his armor...T.O. will have more of a psychological effect than anything else. I think it's possible that he ends up not even on the roster by the end of the year(ala Keyshawn Johnsona couple of years back).

spkb25 08-10-2005 06:16 PM

golden tomb possible

mayoj 08-10-2005 06:43 PM

i just dont understand how they are going to survive without Freddie Mitchel and his blessed hands

spkb25 08-10-2005 07:06 PM

thats funny

BeeoBee 08-10-2005 08:23 PM

i just saw on NFL network that hes suspended for one week of training camp..jeez..he must be be upset with himself now..he has to miss a whole week of sweatin his arse off...way to be firm philly..this dude should be banned from football..you have a 7 year 49 million contract and you cry like a baby..what does he want..100 million?!?!why not 2..this guy is bad for football IMO...way back in the day they had guys playin for pretty much nothing and lovin it..give me T.O.'s talent and i'll play for free..this guys attitude is so bad for football...if he gets his way its just gonna spread like a virus to other players and football will be ruined..in some ways it already has..they still have rookies that havent played in the pros one day still unsigned...at this point, there is no excuse for that..ban T.O. from football is my vote

Tobias-Reiper 08-10-2005 10:20 PM

... missing a week of camp could mean some serious cash loss to a player...

RockyMountainSaint 08-11-2005 04:01 AM

Is anyone still "Hatin" on Joe Horn after watching this TURD (Owens)dominate headlines with his insecure, childish attitude?

08, How could you of all people miss this "Conspiracy Theory"?
Owens and the Eagles know that he would test positive for steroids so they are deliberately keeping him out of camp for the time being. He will get clean and end the drama just as the regular season starts.

We later find out that McNabb and his mother were supplying Owens through Chunky Soups.
The resulting hoopla allow the Saints to slip in under the radar and take the NFC Championship!

God. I need some sleep.

TallySaint 08-11-2005 06:22 AM

Wonder what the Eagles fans think of all this. Eagle fans hate everyone. They hate each other. Heck, they hate themselves.

If Jesus Himself appeared on the fifty yard line he'd be booed..."Get off the field, ya bum!". (Unless he appeared at halftime, where He'd get a smattering of applause)

The best part was I saw on TV TO was playing basketball at his house, and as more and more camera crews got out there he started working out in front of his house. Most everything was no comment, but I doubt highly he has a groin injury. It's clear that the only thing this guy wants as much as money is a camera and a microphone in front of his face.

On the eagles thing: Mcnabb has taken a team with Thrash (or trash as I like to call him), Pinkston (mr. below average), and Freddie-I've had one good game in my life, so now im the greatest ever - Mitchell as his top three WR's for a couple years to the NFC Championship game for a couple years. As much as I don't like the eagles (im a south jerseyian saint fan), Donavan is one of the best things to ever happen to that team, and he will find a way to keep them in strong contention with an average or even below average receiving crew.

saintswhodi 08-11-2005 08:29 AM

See, I gotta disagree with you again papz. You are using the same argument many use as to why the Saints won't do any better this year. Basically you are saying, the Eagles did it before TO, they will do it again. Just like some say, well the Saints have always sucked, so they always will. In a vacuum, maybe, but look at the improvements all around the Eagles. #1, look at just the Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins in their own division. All three could have top flight defenses, key on Westbrook, and you have inexperienced Greg Lewis and Reggie Brown as primary receivers without TO. Before TO they at least had Thrash, Pinkston and Mitchell, who had experience. Those guys don't.

The second thing is, the only impressive playoff win they had without TO was Atlanta. The NFC sucked last year, big time. And again, if TO isn't i the Superbowl going over 100 yards receiving, are they even in that game?

Three, I agree with GT, this has to be somewhat psychologically damaging to the team. You don't go through the turmoil they have had this offseason and in camp and not be effected. You can say, well they have done such and such before without TO, and they have, but they have never had to deal with the adversity TO has brought to this team this offseason. Makes a difference.

Ekk sw... you are saying the Redskins, Cowboys, and Giants have chances to have top flight defenses based on their previous performances from the past years? Unlike the Eagles, all three of these defenses either lost key players or are changing schemes.

Redskins lost Fred Smoot and Antonio Pierce... not to mention Sean Taylor has legal issues that might result in prison time. Those are significant blows to their defense.

The Cowboys are changing schemes. It's unlikely that they will be able to adapt and have success right away. Drew Bledsoe is an improvement but is he really? He's had two consecutive poor seasons and is getting up there in age. You've got to wonder how much he really can help that team... I'd rather have AB on my team. Henry was a good signing to start opposite Newman, but Newman stinks. Besides having an outstanding rookie season, he's been horrible... HORRIBLE for two straight years. No matter how much talent Spears and Ware have, they are still rookies. Both played in 4-3 defenses in college and will have a lot to learn before they make an impact. Also, Darren Woodsen gone, there's going to be a hole right next to Roy Williams.

Okay you got me with the Giants, I can't really find anything bad to say about their team. They made some good defensive acquistions and the return of Shaun Williams and Strahan will make them a force to reckon with. Their offense is solid with the addition of Burress and return of Shockey. Their success will all be in the hands of Eli and I think he's going to have a great year.

During their 3 consecutive NFC Championship appearances Thrash, Pinkston, and Mitchell didn't really light the world on fire. Thrash maybe averaged around 50 balls 650 yards a season. Pinkston averaged 43 and 650. Mitchell averaged 20 and maybe 200 yards per season. As far as I'm concerned, those numbers look easily replaceable. If anything we'll see more of the old McNabb scrambling and making things happen down the field. That and along with their defense got them there every year... not the play of the WR's. I'm pretty sure Greg Lewis is by far going to surpass FredEx's numbers... at least.

Yea that was impressive wasn't it... and it said volumes. All during the playoffs they were mentioning not having T.O. was no big deal. There was no I in team... blah blah and they backed it up. I don't exactly know the record for Philly the past 3-4 years, but haven't they been around 12-4 year in year out? I really don't see how much of that will change... we're talking about one T.O. About the second part sw... I guess we'll never know. Though with T.O. they lost... w/o T.O. they would have still lost.

I definately agree they will have major holes at WR and it will be tough to overcome. But with the acquistion of a Warrick and/or Robinson, it will definately decrease the blow of not having a T.O. on your team.

T.O. is due back in a week so basically this whole thread is irrelevant anyways.

saintswhodi 08-11-2005 10:14 AM

You got me on the last part, so nothing more need be said. We'll pick this up when TO is kicked off the team for good :D

TallySaint 08-11-2005 01:32 PM

Watching T.O. work out on his front lawn is really comical.

1....2...3...4...5...6...7....Ok. I've counted to ten. It's not doin' much good.

T.O. tells Berman "Reid is just tryin' to be the man". Excuse me while I count again.... No, shiot. He's the coach. Owens continued and commented on strained relations with McNabb, players, coaches and staff.

I've always respected the Eagles organization. But, me thinks, if they don't send this guy on his way they don't have a hair on their arse.

There ya go. I've vented. I feel a little better.

... And I'm not sure who sat next to T.O. in the interview. Rosenthal or Owen's PR guy. But he was equally despicable.
