Report: Owens leaves Eagles camp after spat with Reid

Aug. 10, 2005

CBS SportsLine.com staff and wire reports

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Terrell Owens has left Philadelphia Eagles training camp and returned to his home in New Jersey following an apparent verbal disagreement with coach Andy Reid, Philadelphia's ComcastSportsNet.com reported Wednesday.

The dispute occurred during a meeting, the report said. Owens left the meeting, packed up his belongings and drove home.

Owens’ publicist, who confirmed the incident and that Owens has left, is currently en route from Los Angeles to Philadelphia, the website said.

Owens did not practice with the team Wednesday morning but did work out with assistant trainer Chris Peduzzi on one of the adjacent practice fields.

Owens has missed five of the last six days with a groin injury suffered last Thursday. He ran some light routes and caught passes from a machine.

Owens is seeking to renegotiate the seven-year, $49 million deal he signed last year. The Eagles have said they would not do so. On Aug. 1, Owens reported to camp on time, and agent Drew Rosenhaus said a walkout was unlikely.

Wonder if Reid said, "And don't let the door hit ya in the arse"?

From Foxsports.com...

FOXSports.com has learned that this latest incident was triggered when Owens refused to participate in a mandatory autograph session for wide receivers. After Owens was told by head coach Andy Reid that today was his turn to sign autographs, the wideout ignored the head coach and simply brushed past him.

In addition to this latest transgression, Owens has pretty much stopped communicating with members of the coaching staff. Sources have said that at times he has completely ignored some in the organization.

If Peter Warrick gets cut, in which he probably will be, I think the Eagles will definately pick him up. Greg Lewis isn't too bad and if they get Warrick they'll be fine without T.O. They made it to the Superbowl without him, I don't see why they still can't. The enigma Koren Robinson is still on the market also... they'll be fine as usual.

I disagree papz. None of those guys you mentioned is TO. Last season, TO has as many TDs as all their other receivers combined, even when he missed games with a broken ankle. Without TO, they don't get as many wins as they got, they prob don't make the Superbowl. It just so happens the NFC was extra cream puff last year. If TO doesn't play in the Superbowl, they aren't even in that game. I don't think they will come anywhere near last year if they don't have TO. Everyone in the NFC for the most part has improved, and the Eagles are taking a step back without TO and without Simon. That closes the gap for everyone else. Which, in a roundabout way is good for us, one less elite team to worry about should we make the playoffs. I would much rather face the Eagles with Lewis as the number one than with TO as the number one.

They made it to 3 or 4 consecutive NFC Championship games w/o him being on that team. T.O. was out when they made it to the Superbowl. Andy Reid is a fabolous coach and always find other players to get the job done. When he let Trotter walk, someone else filled in. When Taylor and Vincent left, two other guys stepped in. Reid never has a problem with letting stars go and replacing them effectively. Their defense is the key to their success and it's still intact and as strong as ever. L.J. Smith will be more of a factor this year as well as Greg Lewis. They still have the dynamic Westbrook along with super stud McNabb... I have no doubt they'll sign someone that will fill in admirably. If they aren't able to sign someone in the free agent market, T.O. will certainly bring someone good back in a trade.

I really don't think Simon is going anywhere. Even if he does, they'll still have Walker and Patterson will be a decent fill in. With the secondary, linebacking crew, and Walker/Kearse anchoring that defense... I expect them to be in the NFC Championship once again.

Anyways, T.O. will probably show back up. He's leaving millions of dollars on the table along with fines if he doesn't show up. I also would rather our Saints face a T.O.-less squad... but I doubt that happens. Actually if you really think about it... Westbrook would be more of a concern to us than Owens.

Owens is NOT the reason why the Eagles reached the Superbowl...
..and while T.O. got more TD's than those other receivers mentioned, the other receivers didn't start for the Eagles, i.e., a very good offense that has been getting the job done for 4-5 years now...

...if I were the Eagles owner, I'll give T.O. the Ricky Treatment, sue him for the signing bonus money and cut his sorry behind... talent or no talent, one player is not worth it...

.. it just amazes me how time after time, owners and FO's fall for the "we need this guy to win", and time after time, it is proven again and again that one guy is not going to make you win ...

BTW, the Fleurs make it very hard to type...

forget the stats and the x's and o's....i think the Eagles don't do as well this year simply because of this whole ordeal in the first place. I think this whole thing has given McNabb a chink in his armor...T.O. will have more of a psychological effect than anything else. I think it's possible that he ends up not even on the roster by the end of the year(ala Keyshawn Johnsona couple of years back).
