I found this bit of information in an article by L.P. on ESPN.

There could be, however, relief of a sort for one or two of the "franchise" players. There have been trade discussions between the Patriots and New Orleans Saints about Tebucky Jones, and those negotiations will resume at next week's annual league meeting in Phoenix. There is always the chance, too, that a team hard-pressed for salary-cap room in the next couple of months could rescind the "franchise" designation and make the player an unrestricted free agent.

Belichek has said that a desicion will not be made on Tbucky till traing camp. In this way
everybody would have exhauseted their cap room leaving the pats in a better position to ngotiate with him.

i got the whole situation right here, if the pats wait till june 1st, that would also be the date that we release norman hand, freeing up 5.1 million of cap space allowing us to persue jones more aggressively

that is just my accessment of the situation, no source, just an opinion,

i dont think we would trade hand
1. no one wants him b/c he is fat n slow n overpaid
2. we would only get a lesser cap hit for this year, not the full 5.1 mill

Pak - on this I completely agree with you. Hand will be released. And at a very opportune time. The Pats are dumb if they think we won\'t make a play for Jones in June with Hand still sitting on our lineup now. Jones may come here just to give the Pats a big F$%! you for screwing me like that. He\'s ours.
