GETTING RAVE REVIEWS

After an unsuccesful holdout, Saints cornerback Fakhir Brown has reported to camp in top form with a desire to prove his worth

Mike Triplett - Times Picayune

Perhaps no Saints player had a worse offseason than cornerback Fakhir Brown.

And perhaps none has had a better training camp.

Brown began this summer in the Saints' doghouse, thanks to a contract holdout during four weeks of voluntary coaching sessions in May and June.

Not only did the team refuse to negotiate with the sixth-year veteran, but he put his starting job in jeopardy as well, giving up practice reps to backups Jason Craft and Fred Thomas.

But coaches have raved about Brown's performance during the first two weeks of camp, and he is firmly entrenched along with Mike McKenzie, Dwight Smith and Jay Bellamy in a defensive backfield that looks like one of the team's strengths heading into this season.

"Fah has come really ready to go," defensive coordinator Rick Venturi said. "I worried about it, but he's really come back, and I think he's just gotten better every single day. I feel real good about Fakhir again."
