CAMP CONFIDENTIAL

Temperature: Indoors

Heat index: Indoors
Attendance: 150.

In the spotlight:

LEFT TACKLE: This is a potential concern. Wayne Gandy is a solid starter who plays hurt and knows how to take care of his body to get through the season. Still, the 34-year-old veteran is no spring chicken and appears to be on the downside of his career. Moreover, the depth behind Gandy is shaky. The season-ending knee injury to backup Jon Stinchcomb leaves Spencer Folau as the only reliable reserve, and Folau still is rehabilitating from offseason shoulder surgery. Ben Archibald is unproven. If something were to happen to Gandy, the best option might be to flip rookie right tackle Jammal Brown to the left side.

Was denied a request for a sixth season by the NCAA.

WHO'S HOT: Fullback Mike Karney quietly is having a strong camp. He was one of the few bright spots on offense against the Seattle Seahawks in an exhibition game Friday night at the Superdome. His lead blocks helped spring running back Deuce McAllister for his big gains.

WHO'S NOT: Rookie defenders Josh Bullocks and Alfred Fincher showed just how far they are from contributing during the second half of Friday's exhibition loss to Seattle. Both players need to show improvement in an exhibition game at New England on Thursday night to restore their confidence.

PLAY OF THE DAY: Talman Gardner made a nice outstretched catch of a pass by Todd Bouman on a deep post pattern late in Monday's practice. Gardner was well-covered, but Bouman led him perfectly where only the receiver could make the grab.
