Sullivan improving?

I read today that Sullivan has seven tackles this pre-season...leader on the D-Line. Now that Young is out for a bit, Sullivan is going to get some more reps in. His weight is down and he has a better (still not par) work ethic than last year.

Are we going to see Sullivan come back to work and contribute? Or is it just a waste of time and money to have him on the roster this year?

He's already graduated to the 2nd string, so we can only hope.

The injury to Young will show us how bad Sullivan wants it. This is a great oppurtunity for him and hopefully he'll be able to capitalize.

5 tackles and 2 assist, in two preseason games thats good considering he isn't on the first unit and not getting awhole lot of playing time.

I think we'll get a good idea of where Sullivan is at this week against Jamal Lewis and the Ravens. So far, he looks like he's starting to get it.

TheGambler 08-20-2005 01:43 PM

Our D-line would be unreal (and very deep) if the light bulb truly comes on for this guy.

jnormand 08-20-2005 01:54 PM

I just hope the guy can come in a contribute. It would be nice to see Sully actually earn a spot back in the starting rotation. Heres to hoping.

ScottBalot 08-20-2005 01:55 PM

Gambler, I believe that Sully needs a chance to run with the first unit and get in the flow of the game. I know he shouldn't need that, but he is what he is, and sitting him on the bench obviously is not going to change that.

coastalkid 08-20-2005 02:39 PM

He needs a big brother type of mentor. He is still immature and needs some guidance by a pro. I wish someone would throw him a rope and see if he grabs it. Maybe Pease will throw him in the fire with the first team. I'm willing to give him the chance to prove himself this year. If he doesn't seize this opportunity and become a force to reckon with this season I say release or trade him.

TheGambler 08-20-2005 02:42 PM

Hopefully, being around guys like Howard, Smith, and Grant will help him to elevate his play.

By the same token, I think Fahkir Brown and Jason Craft will both play well, simply by being around Dwight Smith and Mike McKenzie, neither of whom seem very shy about voicing their opinion.

Allow Baltimore to dangle hot-dogs from their facemasks and then see how he plays....
loser.....

ScottyRo 08-20-2005 09:59 PM

He didn't really have a choice but to improve. He couldn't have gotten any worse.

LordOfEntropy 08-21-2005 01:01 AM

Time will tell. Young's hurt for a week or two, so we'll find out. Sullivan came in at 320, is looking ok so far against second strings, seems to have a little more desire, so we'll finally see what this "two-first-round-picks-player" can do.

I hope for the best, but still fear the worst.

JOESAM2002 08-21-2005 07:27 AM

As I said in another post, I was at the Seahawks game and watched Sullivan the whole time he was in the game. He worked hard and fought through the blocks. He made some good plays. He did however take a few plays off. I think he's getting the message, play now or goodbye.

jnormand 08-21-2005 11:42 AM

The team needs him to step up and contribute. He has the talent and tools to be a good lineman, but it's his desire and work ethic (or lack there of) that keeps him on the bench. It would even be nice to see the 2003 Sully play.

LordOfEntropy 08-21-2005 11:50 AM

Thanks for the input JoeSam. I wasn't paying particular attention to him in that game, so that input is appreciated.

Even if he does manage to keep his job for next year, I'm sure he'll be asked to renegotiate his contract. We'll find out then just how much this kid wants to play football.

I think i read he's did that in only 14 snaps, that's pretty good if true.

Haz said that I think Nate. He also said that he is improving and wants to see how he will be after 40-50 snaps. He said his confidence is up too. Let's hope this guy can do something to help this team.

It's a shame we had to wait the first two years for him to get a fire under his belly. But, we know he can play if he puts his mind to it. I'm looking forward to Baltimore and Miami just to see how he does.

RE: Re: RE: Sullivan improving?

Well, you can't blame anyone for the "cut sully posts" BoB. They guy has done less than nothing since his rookie year. He has made a bad name for himself. He's been benched and caught eating hotdogs in the friggin press box. He's come into camp overweight and without a desire to play until this year. I think EVERYONE is hoping and has been hoping that Sully comes around. Everyone has been disapointed with what we gave up for the guy and what he has given the Saints in return (nothing). He's got tons of upside and potential and I really hope this is the year he actually bring it to the field. We sure could use a guy with his ability to play on the D line.
