Saints vs. Ravens

For the life of me, I can't understand how this thread has not been started yet. The game is at 8 tonight. It airs on the NFL network tomorrow morning at 10.
Thoughts on the game? Things you'll be looking for? I personally want to see what the offensive line is going to do in this game.

I think our eyes should be on the O-line and D-line. -Sullivan-

Probably because for most of this week, this site has been a pain in the ass, as far as error messages and typing posts that don't go through.

It's Friday already? Man, some weeks just fly by, don't they?

As far as the game...I'm really hoping Lewis plays and for more than just 4 or 5 carries. The run defense needs a good test.

Ok, it looks like Lewis isn't going to play...

However, the Ravens will play tonight without leading rusher Jamal Lewis, who is sidelined with a bone spur in his left foot.

The Saints have allowed a league-high 354 rushing yards and four touchdowns in two games. Opponents are averaging 6.6 yards a carry.

I'm watching both team's running game and o-line. That's what matters to me. Our o-line v. Ravens' D. Ravens' o-line v. our D.

For me it's D-Line and LB's. Does anyone know if Fincher's coming in?

I'm worried about Watson.

sc-saint 08-26-2005 11:51 AM

My concern is felt all around. With Stichcomb down and the line hoping not to move around much as far as new assignments, this will be key to watch. Defensively, I believe our corners are adequate (collectively). But our defensive line still scares me. The run defense is still suspect and not having Jamal Lewis back there will not validate much unless we still allow major yardage. Bryant Young and Az Hakim are scheduled to play in the opener but I would have liked them to get some reps in a some of these preseason games....lets hope the injury bug does not hit us as I don't think we have had any major issues other than Stitchcomb.

Whoa. And I thought that the defense was looking better. Tells you how low my expectations have gotten. Feels like another loooooooong season.

It's called the Venturi Effect. I read about it in a physics class.

It's a simple premis - halfbacks move through the gap more quickly the more old Rick squeezes the line to stop it.

Motorcycle manufacturers apply it to carburetor design.

WhoDat 08-26-2005 02:06 PM

Oh yeah. I think I've heard about that actually. Isn't that the same principle that suggests there's an inverse relationship b/w talent and rank? The more talent you get on your side of the ball the worse your rank, right?

ssmitty 08-26-2005 04:50 PM

i saw those stats also and went whoa.............
not making excuses because it is pre season, but wondering how the other teams stats are verses ours.......
anyone out there with those stats, please post...........smitty

They're similar, but you're confusing the Venturi Effect with the Venturi Principle.

Venturi Effect - n. - occurs when the gap is constricted; a partial vaccum forces halfbacks to accelerate through the area more quickly - see Chester Taylor.

Venturi Principle - n. - the inversely proportional relationship between player talent and defensive performance -- see Saints, Northwestern.

Well, I got what I was looking for in that game. I certainly saw what our lines can do when they put their mind to it. Better start stocking up on beer now.

AllSaints 08-27-2005 10:23 AM

Saints D Horrible missed tackles played bad just bad and the special teams sucked ravens gettin atleast to the 40 every time... not a good game for the D.... and Brooks played pretty good. Kingsbury shouldnt have came in .... A-Mac should have stayed in. The run game wasnt too good....

saintz08 08-27-2005 11:06 AM

What is that old saying about one smiling lacksadasical player who spoils the whole basket ???

jnormand 08-27-2005 12:11 PM

Pretty scary. The Ravens had 94 yards on two run plays....two! That is really bad. I hope this team can put a run defense together soon.

By the way, how did Sully do? I saw he got a sack.-

Euphoria 08-28-2005 12:18 AM

actually he did pretty good. There was a play he used his arm and threw the OL out of the way and make a tackle on a rb.

spkb25 08-28-2005 06:59 AM

i'd say we are in trouble this year. looks like 5-11 with has getting fired.

jnormand 08-28-2005 12:17 PM

Spkb, I hope and expect that we will have a better year than 5-11. Look at it this way, we didn't get worse over the course of the offseason. We did get better. I'm really hoping for a 10-6 year at least. However, if the defense lets plays go like that in every game, we are in BIG trouble.

spkb25 08-28-2005 12:23 PM

well i am just basing this on the fact thjat we look exactly like the same team as lats year against the ravens. i hope i am wrong to. im tired of not making the playofffs. but how can you be here as long as has and have the same results. i think we could be really bad

jnormand 08-28-2005 01:24 PM

I know I know. Let's get through the preseason and see what happens in the reg. season. On a good note, Sully actually looks like he may start this year. Having Sully and Young in there will be a nice addition. The LB's really need to step it up though. I'm worried that James Allen won't even be able to play like he did last season because he has been injured all of the offseason. I hope one of the other guys can step it up.

spkb25 08-28-2005 02:04 PM

i am with you on the lb's norm. i missed the replay of the game but i heard sully just threw a guy out of his way on one play. yeah man i wont throw in the towel even when i should but i am praying we get some stuff going good in the reg. season. he brother i hope your fam gets out of new orleans ok.

The Saints played 7 playoff teams last year and had a record of 2-5 against those teams . A rough guess , looking at this years schedule the Saints would face 6 teams .The schedule faces the Saints against the N.F.C. North , Vikes are questionable without Moss , Packers are decimated along the front line and questionable , Lions are up and down and the Bears look better on paper but have qb issues .

It should be an easier year for the Saints . The same Saints team playing at the same level could go 9-7 to 10-6 based upon the strength of schedule this year .

spkb25 08-28-2005 02:52 PM

hey i hope you are right 08

CHACHING 08-28-2005 06:45 PM

11-5...no doubt.....
Once we work out the bugs...unstopable.....
Come on 08...get on board this winner......
