    2015 Saints Offensive Line

Tim Lelito while a fan favorite just is not quick enough in the phone booth or his reaction time is just a bit slow. stunts are eating him up right now. like you said only way to go from here is up. saints back ups are not an option.

Jahri Evans and Zach Strief are just getting so long in the tooth. got a while before there is any hope for #1 pick step in at RT. OG back up with signs of starter capability does not exist.

With 2017 looming large and appears to be the only time we will have a chance to get this cap situation straightened out, the saints have done a poor job planning ahead for Drew.

So for Drew sake it might be wise to trade him in the finally year of the contract to cash in on any return we can for him. plus at this rate we would be doing Drew a favor.

Got a great group of QBs coming out this year. Much better than Grayson.

Not blaming Drew or SP for all this. Both have to score every time they take the field because of the defense. This make game planning against the saints way to easy.

    My All-In Mock Draft

I would be happy with this draft. Only concern would be WRs at this poin. I really want stephone anthony and beasley. I can see the trade up to get him.

2014 NFL Saints Draft Review Part 1…

oh god should i chime in here?
Cook pick? SP needs his toys. Can he be electric? i am holding off my final judgement just yet. no thw national media hype about rookie of the year i do not buy into one bit. SP has not figured out how to use him. so
My pick at 27 was S Deone Bucannon
SJB was a reach. i understood it but never would have gone that route. Now he is referred to as a safety? makes my pick look that much better. Now add a WR that can go over the middle. Which is not Cooks strong suit. Plus Drew can see him
My pick at 61 WR Allen Robinson
Round 3 was traded but i gave SP a toy that was more like Darren.
My pick at 91 was RB/WR/QB Jerick McKinnon
Round 4 wow what a mess. An ILB that was a head case long before he got here. That we would move to OLB. heck i have not talk about his shoty play in college either. Why not a player that fits SJB new role with the saints CB/S that actually can jump between the two because he did it in college.
My pick at 126 was CB/S Dontae Johnson
Safety yet another pick i understand but once again coming off injury and back on the IR. An OLB all coming of injuries that at least is healthy and seeing the field. so i am not so picky about this move. i understand a 5th round on this kind of talent is acceptable. we all missed the E. J. Gaines band wagon i think.
My pick at 167 was OC Tyler Larsen, still out there as a FA
Ok yet another major reach in round 6. Kid that never lived up to abilities in college. well lets see what he becomes on the PS. Because from here on that is what is all about.

A silver lining to this season might just be that saints front office and the coaches get a serious gut check and realizes that press clipping and gambling so much in the draft on would of, could of and what might be players will come to an end.

    Nah I doubt it.

JP had a better draft the saints also. then again most have since the super bowl. the saints need to get back to what got them there in the first. just solid football players and stop reading press clipping and being so damn cute n flashy.

2014 NFL Saints Draft Review Part 1…

Yeah then we drafted not 1, not two, BUT 3 players coming off major injuries. Khairi Fortt (cut), don't really know what occurred there, apparently it was the right move, but it definitely a waste. Then Ronald Powell, who at this point I'm sure he hasn't made a single tackle on one of his ten snaps, then Sunseri, despite his amazing special teams play is now hurt for the season. We didn't need another strong safety. Then we drafted one of the lowest graded players total in Tavon Rooks, who is on the practice squad. Not that we should expect much from such a low pick, but still we needed players who could have an impact for us ASAP.

The Lost Art of the Trade

as it is right now it is better to let a player walk than go after a trade in most cases. comp pick turns out to better.

right now i think the nfl is lost on how to work this problem out. but as long as they get fat i do think it will matter to them much for now.

Saints' Kobayashi Maru: Drew Brees Contract

Let's just say that last season should be thrown out due to it's unusual circumstance. It may have happened, but it's not likely to be an issue going forward.

The circumstances on the ground today is that the offense has a lot of highly paid players, and that relative to performance, they may not really deserve that level of pay. The same can be said of the defense, probably more than the offense. The issue is that, contractually, the team has so little wiggle room it will be near impossible to make the necessary personnel moves to realize the new strategy over the next 2-3 years.

As fans, we want to field the best team possible. For players, they want to make the most money they can over their limited playing careers. Those two goals only meet when the team has leverage over the salaries. Once the ability of the team to leverage the cap is gone, so too is the likelihood of success.

Teams who are perennial winners never give up leverage in salaries.

Saints' Kobayashi Maru: Drew Brees Contract

No one forgot about the defense. But how do you buy a defense with no salary cap room? You can blame whoever you want for the losses, but the Saints made a decision of what was more important, and you can't blame them for wanting to keep their franchise QB. The amount of money it took to keep him is going to put the onus on the coaches to find a way to do more with less, on defense. If we can at least get one impact player on D this off season, be it through the draft or otherwise, that would help.

Saints' Kobayashi Maru: Drew Brees Contract

He did throw a lot of picks, but he still threw the most td's last season. But the offense just couldn't make up for how piss poor the defense was, why has everyone forgotten that? Or has all this bull **** about salary caps turned everyone into a stammering idiot?

Just kills me that they invested all that money into the offense, thinking it would be okay. We saw how that worked out last season.

I agree with you on all points about shanle. I've never understood the hatred towards him. He's been one of the most durable and dependable (yeah I said it) players on the roster year after year. I do wish someone younger and more athletic would step up, but if they can't beat him out then so be it.

On another note, I read on NFL.com that tennant was released by the patriots. Wonder what the deal is with that guy.

    Defense Analysis, Part 1

All your points are good ones, but I think they lack a lot of the basic skills to play the DB position. The tackling seems to be the biggest issue, I am not sure why it is so hard for them to understand that just "hitting" some one is not tackling" As my HS coach used to say "you have to wrap em up". I like the big hits just as much as the next guy, but I prefer the tackles even more,
Secondly, they seem to be out of position or caught "looking in the backfield" to much. Not sure why, and most times it is on obvious passing plays.
Thirdly, I do not think they are physical enough at the line, I was always taught that you have 5 yards to "contact" the receiver before it is pass interference. So why not knock the guy on his butt. If you are worried about getting beat, well maybe you should not be in the game.
Finally I do think that we need to get more pressure on the QB's. They have way to much time to throw the ball. More pressure will help on the back end.

Saints First Round Picks > FAIL!

This is a great post! My friend and I often laugh about drafting of our two franchises. Mine (Saints) are awful and his (Vikings) are really good. They have picked up some really good guys over the years.

I almost totally concur with everything you have posted in this entry. You have to be critical in all honesty. Looking specifically at the 'Brees era' I think there have been some questionable picks.

A lot of people call Reggie a bust. I'm not comfortable with that. I think he offered a lot to the Saints, changed the way the offence was programmed. His biggest problem was that he couldn't really offer what a traditional RB could. Sometimes you just wanted him to go north and south and between the tackles and I always felt he struggled with that. Let's be honest, what Sproles has offered in 12 games far outweighs what Reggie ever gave us.

Meachem. I like him a lot. Decent WR but he's not a first rounder is he? At the end of the day, the truth is that someone like Brees only needs someone who can run a half decent route with some pace and he'll find him.

Sedrick Ellis. I think he's an 'ok' DT but he doesn't make any big plays or give me massive confidence that he can change a game. We need him on D simply because we do not have anything else. Would look at getting him some premium support or replacing him if necessary very soon indeed.

Malcolm Jenkins. I like the comment on him 'hitting a ceiling' but I actually like Jenkins. He's shown great versatility and at times he's shown some real big play potential. There have been too many times where I have seen a big play absorbed because our corners 'didn't get safety support' which is disappointing but he's still learning and I'm not uncomfortable with what he is doing.

Patrick Robinson. Awful First season. Truly awful HOWEVER he is probably one of the players I have thought was most improved this season. Totally different player. Yeah he's not perfect. He's given up some stupid yardage and sometimes looks to jump routes that aren't even happening but I'm reserving judgement.

Cameron Jordan. Feel sorry judging him so quickly but when you're a first rounder, people expect something soon from you. He has just not really done anything has he? At no point do I ever think 'Wow this kid is getting some pressure on that QB'. Many times, I wonder if he's even on the field? He needs to improve quickly and his next season is very important. If he doesn't step up, he could be in trouble of busting pretty quick.

Ingram. I am a fan of Ingram. He is getting far too much criticism. His first half of the season was 'ok' but not stellar. However he has improved in recent weeks and I am loving how he compliments the running game. People are comparing him to Chris Ivory but I think he is different. How he fits in with Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles is superb. He's been gaining more and more yards, showed he can receive and offers yet another dynamic. I think he could be very impressive. The problem is, everyone is comparing him to Demarco Murray already. That kid is having one hell of an introduction but that's a ridiculous comparison.

So my advice to the Saints Draft Team is to look at some of the franchises who do it better, and steal their notes!
