NCAA may be toothless in Penn State scandal
 

That's a shame, really.

If Washington, DC can take action against Penn State, after a university official was CONVICTED OF 12 counts of aggravated rape of a minor sanctioned by the administration on campus, but the NCAA can do zippo, then I say the NCAA needs to be investigated for its cowardice and ineptitude. If the NCAA is incapable of acting in this situation, it needs to be dissolved and replaced immediately.

Like many SEC fans, I've wondered why the major conferences didn't abandon the NCAA years ago.

If they can't handle this, they're completely worthless.
I mean, come on, this isn't an "ongoing investigation."
The man was convicted of 12 counts of aggravated rape of a minor by a jury of his peers. He's not innocent.
Therefore the NCAA can take action ANY TIME IT WANTS TO. Sounds like the NCAA can't protect the rights and safety of students, or anyone for that matter. They are irrelevant.

Similar to Roger Goodell, the NCAA exists chiefly to dole out wildly inconsistent punishments for vaguely-defined "infractions," often with little-or-no evidence.

Sandusky committed a heinous crime, and was rightfully (finally) convicted ... the clowns running the NCAA apparently don't know what to do with that!

Until recently, I was unaware that the NCAA was proposed by Theodore Roosevelt when public outcry called for abolishing college football as "too violent," which in the early 1900's it probably was!

OMG! Don't give Goodell any ideas!

I find the NCAA really doesn't do anything at all besides screwing with the eligibility of players who try to leave schools they don't fit-it. If a school self-sanctions itself, the NCAA pretty much gives a rubber stamp.

As far as leagues, playoffs, tournaments, games... those are all organized mostly by the respective leagues and/or committees like bowl committees or BCS.

You ask yourself WTF do they do???

I'm not fond of DC stepping in. They already have too much power.

This should be handled by law enforcement, the NCAA, and the court system.

I despise Washington politicians getting involved in anything like this. They're rarely interested in anything except expanding their power and control over every aspect of our lives.

I've always thought it rather hypocritical that highly-paid college coaches can move from school-to-school basically anytime a better offer is on the table, yet the players - who ultimately bring in millions of dollars - must sit a year, or transfer to a lower division.
