Family and friends laud LSU cornerback Tyrann Matheiu's landing in Arizona
 

Family and friends of Tyrann Mathieu were standing in line with happiness and congratulations on being picked by Arizona in the third round of the NFL draft. His father, Tyrone, did offer one caveat.

"He stepped into full grown manhood the minute his name was announced," a joyful elder Mathieu said. "Everything falls on him now, no more reaching back."

That's the truth. After the long, hard road that Tyrann Mathieu laid out for himself with his off-field transgressions, he ended up with the best possible result. He's joining a Cardinals team with a big brother, former LSU teammate Patrick Peterson, waiting to take him under wing.

But Mathieu, the precociously talented All-American cornerback and Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011, starts his NFL career with two strikes. All the support in the world from Peterson can't overcome the damage one more bad decision could render.

After being booted off the LSU team last August and then being arrested for marijuana possession two months later, Mathieu's life has been about a journey to redemption that is far from complete.

Peterson knows that but he also believes in his friend and former roommate. The two have spent a lot of time together during Mathieu's rehabilitation process, giving the Honey Badger at least one true believer.

"The guy is ready to play football," said Peterson, who made the Pro Bowl in his second season with Arizona last year. "He made a mistake, was in a position where he got caught with marijuana, but he understands the importance of being accountable and being a role model, so that stuff's behind him."

So is PP saying the mistake was only being in a position where he got caught? Or is it being in the position in the first place?

He will never leave this behind him. He can't change the past, only hope is he is a smarter person in the future.

Tyrann Matheiu did this to himself, only he can turn his life around. That all said I wish him the best of luck and hats off to Peterson for going out of his way to help a guy down and out.
I read that Arizona wants him to play the Safety position, didn't see him at that position but stranger things have happened.

He has been the Cardinals best player in camp. He's been absolutely tearing it up creating turnovers left and right.
