If there is ever a college football commissioner, Nick Saban is the man
Alabama football coach Nick Saban wants a college football commissioner.
"There needs to be somebody who looks out for the game, not what's best for the Big Ten, not what's best for the SEC or what's best for (Michigan coach) Jim Harbaugh, but what's best for the game of college football," Saban said today just before the start of the SEC's annual business meetings here at the Sandestin Beach Hilton. "The integrity of the game. . .the coaches, the people that play. That's bigger than all this. "That's what somebody should do. Who's doing that? I don't know, because right now everybody is politicking for their conference. There needs to be a college football commissioner." So who would that be? "I don't have a candidate," said Saban, owner of five national championships including four in the last seven seasons. "I'm not into politics. I'm just telling you what I think." There are many coaches who would nominate the 64-year-old Saban for the job, partly because they are tired of getting beat by him, but mostly because they know few coaches care about the game of college football more than him. It has been his life's work. read more |
