Who Will Topple the Tide?
I for one actually like how dominant the Tide have been in recent years. It raises the bar for the other good teams and makes college football even more competitive. Here are 3 teams I think might be up to the task -
1) Penn State - Barkley is probably the toughest player to defend right now and the Nittany Lions coaches use this to their advantage. The defense is also rock solid. I could see Penn State getting in a defensive tussle with Bama and giving themselves a chance. 2) Notre Dame - The Irish are pretty well rounded and are coming on strong this year. Maybe it's the mystique but I think they could manage enough luck against Bama. 3) TCU - I actually think this is the team with the best shot. Patterson has been at TCU for a long time and he has had the continuity to put together a formidable team ready for the NCAA playoffs. Who are your picks? |

No one until proven otherwise ... I hope to be wrong on November 5th.

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
I'm biased... but the only way I see Alabama getting beat is if if we beat ourselves. Any team can lay an egg.
Its certainly not impossible, but unlikely. |

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Bama would obliterate TCU and Notre Dame.
I had my reservations about Penn State and how good they really were... but they pretty much destroyed Michigan. That said, it's apparent Michigan was wayyyyyyyyyy overrated from the get go. If Bama limits Barkley(they've shut down many elite backs in the past), I can't see Penn State winning either. If I had to pick a team to upset them, I'd have to go with Ohio State or Clemson. Those spread option type teams can be difficult to defend regardless of who you are... Bama included. Maybe Georgia this year... they seem a lot tougher. Kirby Smart has really turned that program around and he has familiarity with Saban. |

LSU?
Okay, I'm sorry. I'll just leave this thread now... |

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
At this time I am hard pressed to find a team that is well balanced as Bama. QB is the weakest link I see and so far even that has done enough to win.

WITH THAT SAID, since you mentioned LSU :D, it's no secret Alabama players and coaches have been on record as saying LSU is typically their hardest fought game every season. So... as long as the defense plays the way their capable of playing, if we can mustard up a couple of scores somehow, there's always a chance. I'm excited for Saturday. |

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Mississippi gave the tide a scare. But in the 4th qrt injuries on both side equaled out and the bench talent of bama made the difference.

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Only themselves, sad to say.
|
Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
So much for that dominant Notre Dame O line nonsense. They're SLOW.
|
Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Such a silly question. :)

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Not Notre Dame, Or UConn.!!!

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Clemson is the only team that seems to matchup well against the Tide...
Tide's weakness is clearly at quarterback... Clemson showed that you stay close with a lot of depth and make that Tide defense really work (as they're only tested by two, maybe three, SEC West teams a year)... And when they tire, you'd better make plays to win it in a close one... Just don't see any team doing that this year as Clemson's QB is not impressive despite most of that WR corps still there... |
Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Wisconsin.
They should be able to make the playoffs. Good D, awesome O line play and RBs. QB can be a problem... Gotta have faith! http://www.worldhottesthotsauce.com/...08/badgers.jpg |

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
"Worst" seems like a poor choice of words for me.
Do you know how many programs would settle on a less than stellar Saban team? Down year, it happens to the best of em. |
Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Someone who will play to win. MSU stared at the clock in the 4th quarter, trying to will the time away instead of playing. Totally outcoached at crunch time
As bad a GA was Saturday, they have a chance in the SEC championship. Bama has shown susceptibility, but still are heavy favorites. If someone like Miami sneaks in that will be a blowout |
Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
I sure didn't expect Auburn to do so.
|
Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
Crushing defeat for the Tide. Should get a decent bowl game though but they will lose that one as well. They are not that good.
|
Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
If LSU played them again sans the usual two week prep time, the outcome may be different. Good game for the other Tigers. Strange college football year.
Maybe LSU should play Bama in a bowl game? |

Re: Who Will Topple the Tide?
I concur as well. One of the least dominant Tide teams in a long time. I don't think it'll get better next year either. Still the best in college football, but the gap is inching closer for whatever reason. I'm sure the constant losses to the coaching staff over the years hasn't been doing it any favors and looks like Jeremy Pruitt is going to take a HC gig somewhere pretty soon.

Favorites win. Tide out. Bad for a Tide fan like myself. But, good for college football and ultimately the Tide. What Saban has done is amazing.
