Tell me your thoughts (and anyone else who wants to chime in) on LSU's upcoming season. You've heard alot of 'Noles stuff. It's a two-way steet, bub.

Pat Watkins, Ernie Sims, and Leon Washington make first team All-ACC... and 3 more Noles on the second team... congrats

There is hope in Tallahassee. I was driving home today and for some strange reason I was thinking about our Gardner conversation and I thought to myself... man does Florida State produce some talented NFL players. Dockett, Warrick, Coles, Boldin, Boulware, etc... I think Watkins is going to have a phenomenal season and continue that tradition. I don't read as much on the ACC as I do of the SEC and Pac-10, but what kind of receivers do you guys have this year? Any freakish athletes that are going to make some noise soon?

As for LSU, just check out the preseason power rankings. It pretty much says it all. We are already considered top 3 and we have an outstanding group of guys who are ready to contribute. Nick Saban was a genius at recruiting 5 star freakish athletes and Les Miles will have the pleasure to put them into good use. We have three 5 star WR's... one home grown Early Doucet and two we stole from the sunshine state Amp Lee and Xavier Carter who are ready to make names for themselves. We probably have one of the deepest receiving corps in the nation. These youngsters along with the sensational "veterans" Skyler Green, D. Bowe, and Craig Davis will reck havoc on the SEC.

We have one of the best, if not the best DT combo in the nation... Kyle Williams and Claude Wroten. Both of our star corners Webster and Daniels went pro. Although it may appear we'll have holes in the secondary, but don't be fooled. Laron Landry will be first team All-SEC while Ronnie Prude and Jesse Daniels are no pushovers. Did I mention Saban personally handled the secondary? Numerous of the nations top corner prospects from the past couple of years... all four stars and up committed to LSU. They've been riding the pine for the past 2-3 years because of Daniels and Webster. I'm pretty sure they are ready to shine proving why they were so heavily recruited. Tons and tons of talent. Our linebacking corps isn't outstanding... but it's solid. Cameron Vaughn is the guy that will anchor and he definately has worlds of ability. Hopefully we'll have a breakout year from him.

We definately have the deepest and most talented "group" of running backs. Although some may say USC has White and Bush, but we go 4-5 deep. We have the best third down back in the nation in Addai to go along with the bruiser Broussard... speedster Vincent... scatback Carey and the only white running back in the nation... Hester! :P

LSU offensive lines have produced dozens and dozens of outstanding players in the NFL. This year will be no different. We have one of the best tackles in the nation in Whitworth. The other guys don't get much attention but all will be extremely good and make solid pros.

The only question about this team is it's quarterback situation... just like the Noles.

The problem is we have too much talent but not enough consistency. We will only go as far as JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, or freshman super QB prospect Ryan Perrilloux will takes us. Russell (my pick and probably will be the starter) reminds me of a young Dante Culpepper... hopefully he'll continue to improve and help us win another National Championship.

Rouse already attracts notice

Former Lincoln WR strong in offseason; 'Noles to test him

The Florida State practice fields provided Brad Johnson the perfect retreat from a house full of relatives. Here he could exchange laughs with former teammate Kez McCorvey while preparing for a return to the Minnesota Vikings.

But the former FSU quarterback had another purpose - to check out FSU's newest sensation - receiver Fred Rouse.

"I wanted to see for myself how good he is," Johnson said during his June visit to FSU's voluntary workouts.

Rouse, settling under a 65-yard pass from Xavier Lee, showed Johnson why expectations are high for the former Lincoln standout. FSU offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden is eager to see how Rouse fares against FSU's mostly young but talented cornerbacks.

"Fred - I want to find out what he can do real quick and get a good gauge how he handles college corners," Bowden said. "We'll throw it all at him. The quicker he learns, the quicker he can get into the games."

The swift receiver averaged 20.1 yards per catch with eight touchdowns as a senior. He joined his new teammates for conditioning and afternoon workouts in the second session while also working out with another former Lincoln and FSU standout - Craphonso Thorpe.

"I did a lot of practicing with Thorpe," Rouse said of the fourth-round draft choice of the Kansas City Chiefs. "He taught me cuts and the little tricks to it. The others also helped me to come out of my routes earlier.

"I tried to get a little bigger. Speed is not really a concern for me - it's just a blessing for me. One thing I want to do is get a little more muscle."

But before Rouse could worry about football, he had to meet the NCAA's initial eligibility requirements. He put in extra work during the spring and had the requirements before the second session of FSU's summer school began. Rouse, who has taken two classes at FSU this summer, was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse last week.

"Nobody took me as this kid that actually has some intelligence," Rouse said. "It was all about football. Now that I made the transition to (FSU) I want to show everybody I'm not only an athlete, I'm a student.

"Coming in early and getting a head start in the classroom and also getting a head start on the football field was motivation for me (during the spring)."

With a long list of credentials, including Parade All-American honors, Rouse is expected to make an immediate contribution in a receiving corps jammed with speedsters.

"A lot of guys say they are looking for me to come in and do this and do that," Rouse said. "I'm not going to say. I'm not coming in to be all arrogant and say I'm going to take somebody's spot. It's a learning experience for me. But I am going to prove that I should have a chance to be out there."

FSU linebacker Sims pleads no contest to disorderly conduct

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State junior linebacker Ernie Sims will do two days of public service work after pleading no contest Wednesday to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct, stemming from a fight last month with his girlfriend.

Sims had originally been charged with domestic battery, but that charge was reduced to disorderly conduct and a resisting arrest charge was dropped, prosecutor Stephanie Usina said.

The resisting charge was dropped because "police said he was very remorseful and cooperative" after his arrest, Usina said.

Sims received six months of probation, but it will be lifted as soon as he completes the two days of work for Leon County, Usina said.

"Mr. Sims is pleased with it, I'm pleased with it," said Sims' lawyer, Henry Hunter. "I'm proud to say he's ready for the season, ready to concentrate on school and football. He and his girlfriend are back together... He's a real fine guy."

Sims, 20, was arrested by Tallahassee police shortly after the July 6 incident with his live-in girlfriend, Brooke McGriff, who refused to press charges. The plea deal allows Sims to have normal contact with McGriff.

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden has already said that Sims, the Seminoles' second leading tackler last season, will be in the lineup for the Sept. 5 season opener against Miami. Bowden said that since the original charge was a misdemeanor, he would handle Sims' discipline without suspending him.

Another Florida State linebacker, A.J. Nicholson, also pleaded no contest earlier this week to a first-offense DUI charge, also a misdemeanor.

Nicholson agreed to serve three days in a sheriff's work program and do 50 hours of community service. Nicholson also will have his driver's license suspended for six months, be on probation during that time and attend DUI school and a victim-awareness program.

Resisting arrest charges against Nicholson from a separate June arrest were dropped. Bowden has also said that Nicholson won't be suspended and will also play against Miami.
