I got posion ivy doing yard work, HELP!
Ok got a steroid shot and prednisone tablets. What else can I do to get rid of this crap?
|
Re: I got posion ivy doing yard work, HELP!
I'll look it up. The steroid shot and pred will do the job. I hate prednisone, makes me feel like utter crap.
I've never had poison ivy, even after handling it, rolling it it, etc. at work years back. I'm apparently not allergic to it. |

Baking soda - This treatment has also become a classic homemade cure, made by mixing 3 teaspoons of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of water until a thick paste forms. Apply to the rash and let dry. Another tried-and-true method for many poison ivy sufferers is full immersion in a soothing baking soda bath by adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to the bath water.More cool home remedies on this page: Poison Ivy Treatments, How To's & Home Remedies |

1. DO NOT pee standing up after medicating, or unless you THOROUGHLY wash your hands first.
Your gamble :-) 2. COOL SHOWERS ONLY. No bath 3. DO NOT go out side or sweat if you can help it. 4. Calamine lotion - use it if you must leave the house or go to work. 5. Do not scratch All of the above will cause it to spread... Some to areas you really do not want it to. I go full McGyver, cotton ball and household bleach. It will cut the healing time in 1/2 and kill the itch for hours. Also I would recommend epsom salt instead of baking soda, make a paste in a wash rag and apply to area for a while (3-5 minutes). Again I don't play we'll with it and attack it like a hot donut on a Sunday morning. You can try soaking in a tub at your own risk, if it migrates to the Netherlands you were warned. I am a veteran, looking at it in a dictionary makes me itch. |

Oak, will the bleach dry it up? Should I pop these bubbles then put bleach, salt, ect on it?

The fluid under those blisters is what will cause it to spread. If you are sensitive to sodium hypochlorite (bleach or pool chlorine) you can cut it 50/50 v/v.... Also hydrogen peroxide will work. They both disinfect through oxidation of organics. You may want to test your sensitivity to bleach. Pour some on the rash and after 30 seconds rinse it off, if no issues occur go for 1 min. Remember, rinse all treatments off after your done them apply calamine lotion... The powder in the calamine helps to absorb the ooze and keep it from spreading. I am not a physician.... I just know what works for me. |

Note to self: Try to not get hurt in the vicinity of "TheOak",.

Re: I got posion ivy doing yard work, HELP!
Calamine works well. Also, be careful with whatever clothing you were wearing and bedding. You can wash it but it's like an oil, it won't disipate for a while so you may have minor relapses from wearing it or from your bedding.
Sucks bro, I'm highly allergic to it. Sumac is even worse. That's why I always wear long sleaves outside and pants in the yard. Learned the hard way a couple of times. |

Re: I got posion ivy doing yard work, HELP!
just leave it alone and don't scratch it is the most important part. clean it often. those yuppie creams might help but i've never really used them so i'm not sure.
i don't really get poison ivy. guess i'm fortunate in that regard. |
