What Are You Reading?

I just finished a book about the life of Richard Feynman. He's the guy who helped uncover what really happened to the Space Shuttle Challenger and exposed the bureaucracy in NASA that was ultimately responsible. I like reading about people! :-)
This is my next one. It arrived today! Finally! We all know Paul McCartney was the engine that made the Beatles go. This is supposed to be a very good bio - endorsed by Paul, so here goes... Attachment 7628 |

Re: What Are You Reading?
Good read for anyone especially Rockers.
Kiss and Make Up Gene Simmons Paperback Book New 0099436140 | eBay Most know him for his tongue.... Or as the Demon.. Gene Simmons was born in Israel in 1949; eight years later he arrived in New York City, broke and unable to speak a word of English. His mother survived Nazi Concentration Camps. He is an example of drive and marketing genius. |

Re: What Are You Reading?
Just finished Robopocalypse (Daniel H. Wilson).
Cool book. Similar to Terminator in how robots overtake humans, but in much greater and much more interesting detail. About to start the rest of Koontz' Odd Thomas books. I read the 1st three and they were great. Waiting for Greg Isles new book to come out. Everything he's ever written was an A-plus read in my opinion. |

I'll "try" to set up a Social group to talk and share all about books for the Black and Gold readers in here, kind of surprised we don't have one already. |

Its as fascinating as any murder mystery author I've ever read. Blood Memory and Turning angel were masterpieces. He makes James Patterson and John Grisham look like middle schoolers. And for the WWII buffs, his Spandaux Phonex and Black Cross books were incredible. I was never a WWII buff until I read his works, incredible. Note: He stopped writing about WWII because too often talented writers get pigeonholed and he didn't want his other work to suffer because of his fascination with WWII. |
Re: What Are You Reading?
I liked his murder mystery books better like the Devils Punchbowl, Sleep No More, and True Evil. Isles has just recently signed a deal to write a new trilogy of murder mysteries also due out in 2014.

These are the ones I made it through this year - I only got started in the summer. I used to love reading. Riding the stupid stoopid BART train has helped me rekindle it, so it's all good.
Missing are my Paul McCartney bio which is on loan and a book on Java programming because I never finished it because it made me sleepy and angry. http://blackandgold.com/attachment.p...p;d=1387566338 |
Re: What Are You Reading?
I just finished the third book in the 'Unwind' trilogy. They are teen books, but I like to keep up on what my students are reading, and these are well crafted and not about vampires.
They take place in a dystopian society (like all young fiction nowadays). The act of 'unwinding' is cultivating organs and all usable parts of a teenager whose parents feel is not fit for society, usually because of behavior issues. The parts are used at first on people that need them, but soon everyone wants new hair, or teeth, or a heart. Everyone looks good and lives longer, and disease is practically eradicated. The novels have undertones of the pro-life debate, and definitely address morality issues. Pretty good reads; author is Shusterman. He even includes real life news stories that are relevant to the story: Candidate Charlie Fuqua Advocates Stoning Rebellious Children, Per Deuteronomy "The maintenance of civil order in society rests on the foundation of family discipline. Therefore, a child who disrespects his parents must be permanently removed from society in a way that gives an example to all other children of the importance of respect for parents. The death penalty for rebellious children is not something to be taken lightly. The guidelines for administering the death penalty to rebellious children are given in Deut 21:18-21" - Republican Charlie Fuqua, from his book God's Law "I think my views are fairly well-accepted by most people" - Charles Fuqua, as quoted by the Associated Press |
