Just bought a new laptop, need help!!!

I got an HP with windows 8. Wow its pretty cool but they want me to pay for MS Office. Ive google searched, youtubed, and everything imagined to try and find out how to install it for free.

What I ended up doing was clicking on the MS Office app in the main dash board and copying and pasting a key(password) that I found in the comment section on youtube. What ended up happening is they said the password was already used so I can have a 30 day trial for free but then that's it.

My question is, can someone really help me download MS Office 2013 for free with a password that works? Im no computer wiz by any means and the tutorials on youtube blew my mind.

I think 2 things have to happen, 1st a person that is a computer wiz, 2nd someone who can call me on the phone and walk me through it.

HELP :bng:

Do you absolutely need MS Office or will an alternative work? Http://OpenOffice.org works good.

Otherwise, there is no "free" and legal MS Office to download.

Thanks exile, is open office compatible with MS Word? In other words, can I open a word doc in open office and vice versa?

Yes it is but if you are doing fancy dancy stuff you may lose some formatting. I use it on my computers with exception to one with MS Office. I shelled out money for that one because I do some heavy Word and PowerPoint formatting that doesn't translate to OpenOffice well. So really, it just depends on what you need it for exactly.

But as for open source, OpenOffice is the best IMO.

Office 365 rocks. It's not free... $99 for a five user license on any device. You can cloud store your docs... Look into that one.

Bdub, pirating MS Office is not practical for long term and it will abandon you when you're in a REAL pinch, meaning you're not going to have it when you need it most - you can book it.

The office 365 service is cheap and great. If you want to try something nice, try Libre Office and/or OpenOffice.... LibreOffice 4.1 is here!

Like exile said, those programs will probably do everything you want and a more, but if you get super detailed in a larger project that requires absolute cross PC/Mac compatibility with documents and presentations, there may be some variation. Then again, even if you're using office there may still be variation.

That's why I come here for advice. Thanks gentleman! So what I will do is just nut up and buy one of the programs. Would yall say MS is the best only because most computers have it? I just worry about transferring docs from one comp to another for compatibility.

Office365 for the win. I think you also get a license for a local install.

You could, of course...
Configure - Apple Store (U.S.)

It might set you back a bit more than a PC equivalent... and you would still likely want Office 365, even though the MAC Office equivalent now includes it for free.
