How much does an NHL player take home on a $1 million salary? Not as much you think

$240,000 after expenses ... that's their "carrying around" money. Not bad,

... $336,000CAD ... that'll buy ya' a lot of Tim Horton's, just sayin',

True story though, when the Columbus Blue Jackets were forming, Warren Rychel (COL) was power skating/training at the Tecumseh, ON arena (his Dad owns the pro shop) and actually invited my son, 7 or 8yrs old at the time, out on the ice to skate with him. It was pretty cool for him, skating with an NHL'er and all, even if he was former Avalanche. But anyway, that's what Warren was doing, shooting for a one year/one million contract with the new expansion team and close out his pro career. I don't think he got it, but he's still a local hero.
