First time ink!
As a total surprise, my wife of almost 29 years, asks me a few months ago if I might want a tattoo for my 60th birthday. My answer was an unsubdued, "Hell, yes!"
Thus began my journey to design what would become part of me. I wanted to do a tribute to my Irish heritage and she suggested the idea of the compass. I also wanted to express our love of travel, past and future. I would especially like to point out the fantastic artist, Paula Chillog at Pens and Needles Tattoo Studio, who took our ever changing concept (with the patience of an angel), totally understood my final vision, and turned it into something far beyond what I had expected. Thank you so much, Paula. You are awesome! The verbiage is Old Irish and is displayed in the Gaelic alphabet, and is an old Irish saying translated from, “A man who travels has stories to tell.” The center of the compass is a very complex Celtic knot that I felt only Paula could pull off. The letters on the compass points are the abbreviations of the Irish translations of the four directions. Well, what do you think? Looks like at 60 you've got better guns than me at 54. [/petty envy]
