Greatest Pianist (Modern era)

Who tickles the ivory best for you?

Vince Guaraldi (all time greatest no one will ever be as good as him [PERIOD])

Also can be added to the "What are you listening to" thread.

Pete 12-21-2010 12:00 AM

I know it's not classical Sap but Allen Toussaint holds his own..I'm not really up to speed with the classical side of the spectrum

SapperSaint 12-21-2010 11:26 AM

Vince is a Jazz guy. You would best know him from the "Peanuts" TV shows. He wrote "Linus and Lucy" other wise best known as the Charlie Brown music.

neugey 12-21-2010 12:18 PM

Mike Garson is one of my personal favorites.

Pete 12-22-2010 02:20 AM

Right on Sap..I've tried to tackle the Charlie brown theme before on keys to no avail!I'm not able to split my brain in two playing THAT bass line, along with the melody @ the same time;tough stuff for sure..for me anyways!lol I'm not all that polished on keys.

how the hell was he in lafayette and I never heard anything about it?

WhoDat!656 12-29-2010 06:05 PM

I certainly wouldn't put him in the Greatest category, but Jason D. Williams should at least be mentioned.

I like that cat. I used to play one of his records when I worked at KJAE. "Waitin' on Ice" I believe it was...dude sounded EXACTLY like Jerry Lee Lewis.

I am fortunate to have seen this guy twice in concert. Many years apart, but excellent both times.

Greatest Pianist Modern era. That is tough. Not so much the greatest but one I like for his performances and inventive composing - Ryuichi Sakamoto

You mean the movie? No. That was Dennis Quaid. This guy is a legitimate musician. He recorded for RCA for a while - quite a while back...I'd say early 90's. I'm not sure what he's doing these days...but he can play...

for those who have never heard this, you can keep your man card... but you don't deserve your "musical taste" card. give it back.
