Jimmy Page: How we wrote Stairway to Heaven
Stairway to Heaven was one of the biggest rock songs of the 1970s - loved, imitated and sometimes parodied.
Now Led Zeppelin's classic track is back on the turntable, on a re-mastered version of the band's fourth album. Forty-three years after its release, the song continues to hold a place in many music fans' hearts. Guitarist Jimmy Page gives a personal account of how a rock anthem came together. Still think it is the best rock song ever recorded.

Yes it is.

Re: Jimmy Page: How we wrote Stairway to Heaven
The best rock song ever recorded. Hmmm.
I just don't know about that. Because now we have to get into arrangements, musicians, lyrics, production, etc. Best lyrics? I love the lyrics, but "best ever"? Best arrangement? Relative to which others? Best musicians? Page himself will tell you he's not the greatest guitar player - in fact he's a bit sloppy, but Zeppelin didn't exactly suck either. Production? Meh. Not even close really. But all things combined, it's darn near as good a rock n roll record as has ever been made. Best ever? Not that I'd argue against because hey, whatever makes you vibrate, but I could easily pick 10 or more that would hold up against Stairway. Not any better mind you, but every bit as good. That's my .02. |

Definitely one of the greatest rock songs by one of the greatest rock groups of all time, no matter where you rank it.
Cannot argue the influence Zeppelin has had on EVERYBODY who came after them. Thanks for posting. |
