If they want taxpayer $ for a shiny new toy stadium, then the team becomes the property of the people in that market, a la GB. Simple as that! It's high time the robbery of the American people ends.

I understand how much money sports teams bring to an area, but at some point a city is going to bankrupt itself trying to keep a team. And the league will just move it and go on to the next city looking to overpay.

I would venture to guess that the eventual economic impact to the state and/or city would easily outweigh any stadium investment. Any argument against the investment would be more with the principle of any public funding.

I honestly see both sides in this. Living in the Bay Area I watched how two different “cities” handled their sports franchises in Oakland vs San Francisco.

Long story short, Oakland lost the Raiders, lost the Warriors, and is always in danger of losing the A’s. All three teams played in the Oakland Colosseum/Arena (Share a parking lot for those who don’t know). It’s same exit as Oakland airport which is a major fly out spot for the East Bay. A lot of potential for economic growth.

Giants and Niners were in Candlestick Park for a long time (Cold, Windy, Far distance for most to travel to). Giants built a new park closer in to the city center of San Fran right off the Bay Bridge. Fans increased as did the local area businesses. Team spent their money on payroll and the team did well. Niners moved to Santa Clara for a stadium.

Building on the frustration of not getting a new stadium, the Warriors follow suit and move to a new spot away from Oakland into San Fran. Oakland loses another business opportunity.

I’m rambling a bit I know, but I’ve watched these cities and teams (not to forget the Kings in Sacramento) go through this a lot and it’s not an easy question to answer.

At some point, you run out of OPM, other people's money, said Margaret Thatcher at one time. The time has come for this statement to befit these professional franchises. Economic offset is no longer offsetting economically, unless you factor in SBs. Even then, has a SB ever been awarded to GB stadium? Why not? Why is it a carrot for new stadiums to host a SB?

But if I own a home in an area that was hoping for a new stadium then that would increase local business traffic and make my property more valuable; so it’s not OPM. It’s my money investing in something that can benefit the community like good schools or a hospital or parks in your area.

The flip side is fixing to happen if not already. Lumber pricing has plummeted.
