Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on its Web site that Falcons officials said Petrino phoned in his resignation at about 5:45 p.m. EST Tuesday. He reportedly will not coach the Falcons' remaining three games.
"Bobby Petrino today submitted his resignation as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons," the Falcons' Web site said. "The Falcons will have no further comment until their news conference set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the club's Flowery Branch headquarters." Various media outlets have said Petrino's Falcons contract does not include a buyout clause. Petrino signed a five-year, $24 million deal with Atlanta in January. His deal with Arkansas, ESPN reported, would be for about $3 million per season. Rivals.com College Football - Petrino expected to fill opening at Arkansas Well I guess he had enough of the Falcons too. Wonder why he did leave with other falcons fans in the 3rd qtr. LOL |
Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
He is a great college coach. I like him at Louisville. Maybe the Pro game was to much for him.
Or the Mike CON Vick thing pushed him back to college. |
Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
This is excellent news for the Saints. I really think he was dealt a seriously bad hand with the Falcons, but would have turned them around very soon. He is an excellent coach, and I am actually disappointed he gave up on this. The good news is he is gone from Atlanta, I really think he would have turned Atlanta into a top notch team within a couple of years.

Chalk up another bs win for Tampa next week. They are such frauds. I hope we get another shot at them.

Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
petrino is a coward, point blank u dont quit on ya team, especially during the season, where is your pride, atleast stick around and bring in your players that fit your system.....if i was a recruit i wouldnt go to ark, from that alone i wouldnt play for a coach like that, thats like him quitin on me during my redshirt season....COWARD

Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
Didn't Blank back his decisions pretty well? During MNF I didn't hear Blank make any disparaging comments while he was being interviewed, if anything it sounded like he supported his decisions as head coach even if he didn't agree with them.
I agree, it's pretty chicken to quit before the regular season's over. Good riddance to bad rubbish, perhaps? I wonder who Atlanta will bring in to replace him? |
Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
Inevitable... I don't blame him for leaving a tanking franchise who's players have no respect for their coach. If I were him, I would do the exact same thing... though I probably would have finished out the season.

Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
papz thats the thing u would have finished the season.... it will suck if the bring cowher
|
Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
I can't see Cowher going there unless they completely blow him away with an offer. It would suck for any well established winning coach to take over a rebuilding franchise. They need to bring in a young guy with a fresh face surrounded by good coordinators imo... kind of like Lance Kiffin in Oakland. Can you imagine how many ugly faces Cowher would make during a season there... disturbing.

And is the franchise tanking because of one player is gone, or because the coaching is bad? |
Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
First the first question TR... when Petrino cut come of the players in which everyone was pretty close to, it definately raised eyebrows in the locker room. It definately caused animosity between the players and the coach... combine that with the losing, and there you have it. We only know so much about the situation there... and a majority of it is how the media feels like portraying it.
As for the second question, definately a combination of both. Petrino has made some very questionable personnel moves. When Harrington was actually winning games for them, he yanked him in favor of Leftwich. Norwood would is probably their best back, doesn't even get 10 touches a game. It's his job to get his players ready and focused... and that certainly didn't happen. We all know how much Vick meant to that franchise and their success... so that part is self explanatory. He screwed everyone from top to bottom. |
Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
I hate the Falcons and couldn't have wished this on any other teams but Bobby went around it the wrong way, he should have told his players in person looking them in the eyes and explain to them as to why he left them the way that he did but instead he left notes on their lockers saying he quit and pretty much they won't see each other face to face.
Now I do understand that Arkansas wanted him right away due to recruiting and also if he didn't take the job they would have looked at other possible coaches. With all this said I can't blame him for not wanting to coach the Falcons because it will take 2-4 years to get this team back on track. I'm sure the Vick drama around him made it easier for him to make up his mind in leaving... Did I say that I hate the Falcons? |
Re: Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has resigned
I can't believe professional athletes who leave at the first of $$$$$ are taking shots at a coach they didn't care about anyway, so it seems. Why are Joey people like Joey Harrington taking his dismissal seriously? The team is entertaining for all the wrong reasons.
