Report: Oakland Raiders to Fire Tom Cable Monday

The Oakland Raiders appear ready to fire head coach Tom Cable on Monday according to a report.

Cable is scheduled to meet with Raiders owner Al Davis today to “discuss all the reason he’ll get fired” according to David White of the San Francisco Chronicle.

White cites unnamed sources “up and down the organizational chart” who say Monday will be Cable’s final one with the Raiders.

The only question here is whether the team dismisses Cable “for cause.”

Sure, there are plenty of reasons to fire him. A 5-11 record is a tough sell to retain your services as a head coach. Also, the lack of consistent offensive production could show just cause to terminate the contract.

But what about the quality wins he had this season? The Raiders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals—two teams that made it to the playoffs.

Then again, losses to the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs don’t exactly look great on the resume.
