After just three years, Russell's career with Raiders comes to an end

Associated Press ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have released former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell after three unproductive and highly paid seasons. Senior executive John Herrera told The Associated Press the move was made Thursday and that "we wish him well." The decision comes less than two weeks after Oakland acquired Jason Campbell from Washington to take over at quarterback. Russell will now likely be considered the biggest draft bust in NFL history. He will have been paid more than $39 million by the Raiders, while producing only seven wins as a starter. He lost his starting job midway through last season. His career has been hampered by a rookie holdout, poor work habits, being overweight and the lack of productive players around him. After just three years, Russell's career with Raiders comes to an end My opinion, this is the best decision Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders have made in the past 8 years. |

I hope I'm wrong, but something tells me that it won't be long and we'll be seeing him in handcuffs.

espn john clayton just said his best fit for a team would be us. that peyton might be able to mold him for a cheap project. would anyone want him?

Re: After just three years, Russell's career with Raiders comes to an end
I want whatever Clayton is smoking then, I don't want to see that over hyped piece of garbage anywhere near Saints training camp

Re: After just three years, Russell's career with Raiders comes to an end
i agree. dont think he is worth it but if peyton likes him more than the 7th round rookie and thinks maybe drew could rub off on him. then for minimum wage its not a huge risk.

Re: After just three years, Russell's career with Raiders comes to an end
Well, it's going to be kind of hard to keep him completely away from the Saints. Isn't he FROM louisiana? He reminds me of Sugg Knight...

Re: After just three years, Russell's career with Raiders comes to an end
seriously, he lasted longer than I'd have expected. He's a big heap of junk and was only further jaded off the bat coming in so overpaid. Basically, he could have retired and lived well before even completing a season. It takes a special amount of heart to stay committed in those circumstances. This he lacks... poor poor Raiders, wasted so much money and even more importantly TIME on Russell.
OT: I like J. Campbell, but think he might just get them to the .500 mark |
